On Feb. 2, Representative Morgan Griffith's knowledgeable commentary on Sweden and NATO is important in today's world. Mr. Griffith is a knowledgeable historian. He understands Sweden as well as the history of Europe. He understands how toxic Soviet Communism is. As much as Russia is now known as a Republic, President Putin is dedicated to Soviet Communism, even though there was a short respite from total Soviet Communism in the 1990s' under the leadership of President Boris Yeltsin.
It was ushered in by President Mikhail Gorbachev with Glasnost (transparency) and Perestroika (reforming, rebuilding) in 1980. Gorbachev wanted Russia to become a "normal country."
In the 1990s' people in the former Soviet Union were able to travel outside of Russia, and other nationals were welcomed into Russia. It was the time when annexed countries by Soviet Communists were given freedom to travel. It seems today we have history repeating itself.
As described by Rep. Morgan Griffith's statement that the existence of NATO is of utmost significance. It is to keep former occupied countries, by force, including Ukraine, from losing its independence. If Ukraine is taken over by Soviet Communism what is the prognosis for the other countries?
