Elected politicians work for us! Whether we always feel like they do a good job is another thing. But either way, the biggest check and balance on politicians is that they know they’ll have to answer to voters every few years, if they want to be re-elected. If a politician doesn’t vote the way his/her community wants, they’re not likely to be a politician for very long. Every part of our political process in Ohio is usually made by elected officials who are accountable to Ohio voters. Issue One takes that power away from the accountable elected officials and puts it in the hands of unelected, untouchable appointed officials. Now we don’t have accountability for anyone drawing the maps that define our democracy. Issue One will create an unaccountable fourth branch of government – the unelected bureaucrats who have complete control over our political maps with zero of the checks that our elected officials have. Let’s keep the power in the hands of our accountable elected officials because that keeps the power in the hands of the people. VOTE NO ON ISSUE 1.
