County Democrats Thanked
While the majority of voters in Washington County were obviously pleased by the outcome of the Nov. 5 election, there is a minority of voters who were more than disappointed.
Democratic candidates are well aware of the challenges they face in running for office in this county, district or state. Yet they are willing to face these challenges, expend their time, energy and money because they believe that democracy and good governance demand checks and balances that our two-party system helps to insure.
With that in mind, I would like to humbly thank the outstanding, well-qualified Democratic candidates who were proudly supported by local Democrats. Thanks to the most honorable Senator Sherrod Brown for his tireless work on behalf of Ohioans and his persistent efforts to protect all workers. Thanks to District 6 Congressional Candidate, the amazing Michael Kripchak; District 30 Senate Candidate, the most compassionate Ari Faber; and the joyful Wenda Sheard, candidate for 95th District state representative. Finally, I would like to thank Tracey Wright who has served Washington County well for 33 years as the County Recorder.
Anyone who has ever done business in that office can attest to the fact that they were treated in a friendly and professional manner, regardless of who they were or how they voted. Perhaps the newly-elected Recorder Judson should consider being a more gracious winner. Rather than thanking Recorder Wright for her many years of service, Judson’s comment was ‘It’s a very nice feeling to say there are no more Democrats in county offices.’
Perhaps graciousness is no longer required by elected officials, but I hope Ms. Judson and all newly-elected Republicans will remember that they are in office to represent ALL citizens. Remember, too, that Democrats in this county also own property, operate businesses, pay taxes, have jobs, donate to charities, and volunteer to make this community better for all. Best of luck to all of them in their roles as public servants and in representing the interests of all the people they serve.
