What is the City of Marietta's tax rate and what is taxable?
Marietta's tax rate is 1.85% on any earned income one receives from working and/or living within the City of Marietta.
Landlords: Who own rental property inside the city must pay on their net profit and are required to furnish tenants' names and addresses by January 31st. Forms are available on-line.
Resident Individuals, 18 years of age and older, living and/or working in the City of Marietta and receiving income from W-2's, 1099's and federal schedules must file and pay City Income Taxes unless their employer withholds.
However, if one has additional income not withheld on, one must file and pay City Income Tax.
Non-resident Individuals, 18 years and older, for work done or services performed or rendered in the City of Marietta that is not subject to employer withholding must file and pay City Income Taxes.
Resident and Non-resident who own businesses in the City of Marietta or if one has an office within the city limits must file and pay City Income Taxes. Tax is to be paid on all compensation earned (W-2's) and on net profits from the operation of a business.
If you employ individuals from whom you do not withhold Marietta City Income Taxes, please furnish copies of 1099's issued to employees, agents, contracted individuals etc. who worked in the City of Marietta. If a 1099 is not issued please supply a list of individuals and include Social Security number, Federal ID, address and amount paid.
What is the responsibility of a Marietta employer regarding Marietta City Income Tax?
Employers are required to deduct 1.85% tax from employee's qualifying wages and send to the City either quarterly or monthly.
Monthly's payments are due the 15th of the following month and quarterly's payments are due the last day of the following month.
New State mandated penalty and interest charges apply if late. 50% of the withholding tax due and a late filing fee of $25.00 per month not to exceed $150.00 and interest will be calculated at the July federal short-term interest rate plus 5%.
I am retired. Am I required to file a Marietta tax return?
If your only income is from Social Security, pensions, interest or dividends, you do not need to file a return. When you retire please notify the income tax office. However, if you have additional income such as rental or business income, you must file a tax return even though you are retired. If you return to work changing your status from retired to employed, you are required to notify our office and resume filing tax returns.
I rent an apartment or home in the City of Marietta. Do I have to pay City Income Tax?
All residents, whether they own or rent their homes, must file a return unless they are under the age of 18 and/or retired with no earned income. If your employer is withholding you do not need to file.
Do I receive credit for taxes paid to other cities?
Yes, residents receive credit up to Marietta's tax rate of 1.85% for taxes paid to other Ohio Municipalities.
Does the City of Marietta accept extensions?
Marietta honors Federal Extensions; however, they must be attached to the return when filed. An extension is only an extension to file.

Failure to file on or before April 15th, 2025 will result in a late fee of $25.00 per month.

Yes, if you owed more than $200.00 on last year's tax return estimated quarterly payment must be made, however only 90% of the estimated payment is required.
