I decided to research our two candidates for governor of the state of Ohio simply because only Dr. Amy Acton’s background and history was being discussed. I went to the internet and Wikipedia and learned: Vivek Ramaswamy was born in Ohio of immigrant parents from India, but has repeatedly called for an end to birthright citizenship. He has also wanted to raise the voting age from the age of 18 to 25. When he ran for president of the United States, he pledged, if elected, to fire 75% of federal employees and abolish five federal agencies.
Three were the FBI, ATF, and the IRS.
He has a biology degree from Harvard and a juris doctor from Yale. That degree is required to practice law in the United States, but does not make one a lawyer, but gives background in contracts, criminal law, and torts. That background would help him with all the biotech companies that he has owned or had interests in. His strategy was to acquire patents from pharmaceutical businesses for drugs that needed more development and take them to the public.
He founded Riovant in 2014. That company still exists. Subsidiaries created:
Dermavant, Irovant, Cytovant, Sinovant, and Axovant. Axovant Sciences marketed drug for Alzheimer’s (interpirdine), which had failed four clinical trials and failed again. It became a gene therapy company and dissolved in 2023. Mr. Ramaswamy is a billionaire because of his companies research and development.
Dr. Amy Acton’s background is obtaining a degree from both Youngstown State University and Northeast Ohio Medical University. She has a master’s degree public health at Ohio State University and trained at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She has taught as an associate professor of practice in public health from Ohio State University. Dr. Acton has also worked at Columbus Foundation as a grants manager and as Director of Project LOVE (Love Our Kids, Vaccinate Early). In 2019, Republican Gov. DeWine appointed Dr. Acton to his cabinet as Director of the Department of Health.
During the COVID 19 crisis, in early 2020, Gov. DeWine deferred to Dr. Acton for specific questions regarding Covid and “reminding Ohioans that the state’s decisions are driven by science.” She was assigned a security detail in
May of 2020 because of open threats from the public. After state legislators and Speaker of the House Larry Householder introduced bills that she believed would violate her Hippocratic Oath, Dr. Acton resigned her cabinet position in June, but still remained a chief health advisor for DeWine’s administration. (Larry Householder remains in prison in Elkton, Ohio, for his 2023 conviction of racketeering in the First Energy scandal.)
Because of her work as Director of the Ohio Department of Health, she received a Profile in Courage Award from Caroline Kennedy and Jack Schlossberg. The New York Times called her “The Leader Which We All Wish We Had.”
I encourage you to vote for Dr. Amy Acton for governor of the state of Ohio for her background of caring for people, her intelligence, her honesty, and her courage to protect and provide the best advantages for the citizens of Ohio.
