Cadets lock up with Trail in PVC matchup

BEVERLY -- The Fort Frye Cadets hope to continue their dominance in Pioneer Valley Conference play Friday night when they travel to Lore City to take on the (4-2) Buckeye Trail Warriors.
The Eric Huck-led Cadets are on quite a roll as they have now won 18 consecutive regular season games and eight straight PVC contests dating back to 2014.
Last week on homecoming night, the Cadets pummeled Frontier 53-0 on a soggy night in Beverly.
Cadet running back Casey Lewis continued his outstanding senior season against the Cougars as he had a pair of punt returns for touchdowns, a rushing touchdown and a receiving one as well as being named homecoming king at halftime.
Lewis eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark in rushing last week and has totaled an impressive 19 touchdowns on the season.
Sophomore quarterback Tate Engle has thrown for 732 yards on the season and nine touchdowns while all- purpose back Garrett Lochary has scored 10 touchdowns of his own.
Fort Frye is currently ranked number three in the Division VI, Region 23 rankings.
Buckeye Trail had a four- game losing streak of their own snapped last week in a thriller against Shenandoah as they failed to convert a two-point conversion for the win with a minute to play in a 27-26 loss.
Quarterback Troy Pontius carried the ball 33 times last week for 166 yards and three touchdowns.
The high-powered Trail offense led by Pontius and running back Austin Snodgrass comes into the game averaging nearly 45 points over their last five games.
Last season in Beverly, the Cadets downed Buckeye Trail 30-8.
WATERFORD (5-1) AT SOUTH GALLIA (2-4)
The Wildcats look to remain undefeated in conference play and to also grab their fourth consecutive victory overall Friday night when they travel to Crown City to take on the South Gallia Rebels in a Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division tussle.
The green and white have been on quite a roll of late as they have scored dominating wins over Frontier (54-14) two weeks ago and Eastern (46-7) last week on their homecoming night.
Waterford features a very balanced offense led by senior quarterback Isaac Huffman, who has completed 31-of-58 pass attempts on the season for 655 yards and nine touchdowns.
Sophomore Braden Bellville has proved to be a dual threat out of the Wildcat backfield as he has totaled 381 rushing yards and 228 receiving yards to go along with 10 total touchdowns.
Tyler McCutcheon leads the Wildcats in rushing with 392 yards on 65 carries and nine touchdowns.
Last week against Eastern, Cody Harris led the way for the "Cats with 89 rushing yards on just four touches.
The Eric McCutcheon-led Wildcats are currently ranked number two, just behind conference rival Southern in the Division VII, Region 27 rankings.
The game will be the second straight for the Rebels against a Washington County school as they were beaten by Belpre 30-20 last Friday.
Johnny Sheets scored all three South Gallia touchdowns last week against Belpre as he ran for 325 yards on 37 carries.
Last season in Waterford, South Gallia edged the 'Cats 20-13.
WILLIAMSTOWN (4-2) AT BUFFALO (5-0)
The No. 15 Williamstown Yellowjackets continue their torrid schedule as they travel to Buffalo Friday night to take on their second consecutive undefeated team in the No. 4 ranked Bison.
Last week the 'Jackets came up on the short end of a 21-7 decision at home to St. Marys.
Williamstown quarterback Trenton Tallman has ran for 100 yards or more in all but one of the Yellowjackets first six games and eclipsed the century mark last week with 137 stripes on 20 carries against the Blue Devils.
Tallman now has totaled 1,036 yards rushing on 121 carries on the season for 13 touchdowns while also completing 31-of -53 pass attempts for 439 yards and seven touchdowns.
Donathan Taylor has added 280 yards rushing on 41 carries while also hauling in 11 passes for 100 yards and two more scores.
The Bison are also led by another potential all-stater in Dylan Lucas, who ran for 212 yards on 22 carries in last week's 19-0 win over Tug Valley.
The two schools play one common opponent in 2016 as the Bison opened their season with a 45-18 win over Parkersburg Catholic, a team the 'Jackets will play in their next-to-last game of the season.
CALDWELL (1-5) AT FRONTIER (0-6)
A pair of struggling Pioneer Valley Conference schools will do battle Friday night when the Redskins travel to New Matamoras to take on the winless Cougars.
Frontier has struggled to put points on the board through the first six weeks of the 2016 season as the Johnny Schmidt-led Cougars are averaging less than eight points per game.
Quarterback Toby Minder and running back Brock Holdren will lkely get the majority of the carries against Caldwell while freshman Joel Lewis has impressed in limited action.
The Cougars were beaten soundly last week by Fort Frye (53-0) and are currently in the midst of a 12-game PVC losing streak dating back to 2014.
After playoff appearances the past three seasons,the 2016 campaign has been a rebuilding year for first year head coach Grant Gaydos and his Redskins.
Caldwell defeated Monroe Central 36-8 in week four for their only win of the season.
Senior running back Dalton Ivey continues to excel in his role as featured back for the Redskins as he went over the 1,000 yard mark with 278 yards in last week's 45-14 loss to Bishop Rosecrans.
Last season in Caldwell, the Redskins demolished the Cougars 61-6.
MONROE CENTRAL (0-6) AT SHENANDOAH (2-4)
Shenandoah will look to remain unblemished in conference play when they host the winless Seminoles Friday night.
The Zeps came into the game with momentum on their side after a thrilling 27-26 upset win last week over Buckeye Trail in a game that saw the Shenandoah defense stop the Warriors two-point conversion attempt for the win with a minute to play.
The Jesse Wells-coached Zeps also defeated Frontier (42-0) in its season opener.
Running back Nick Miller leads the Shenandoah offense with 476 rushing yards on 77 carries while freshman Kendal Sherman has emerged as a threat of late as he had an 82-yard run for a touchdown as well as an 85- yard kickoff return for another score last week against Trail.
The usually solid Seminoles are in the midst of one of their worst seasons in many years as they have been outscored by their opponents by a 254-82 margin.
Quarterback Jarett Hooper and all purpose backs Bobby O'Donnell and Ryan LaFollette will look to get the 'Noles that elusive first win of the season.
Lat season in Woodsfield, the Seminoles rolled to a 30-6 win.
UNION LOCAL (5-1) AT WARREN (2-4)
The Warriors appear to have quite a challenge on their hands Friday night when they welcome a very good Union Local Jets team to Vincent.
One week after scoring a 28-0 win over Oak Glen, the Tim Carver-led Warriors were trounced 64-13 last week on the road at Jackson.
Cole Riffle is closing in on 1,000 rushing yards on the season as the junior tailback has totaled 880 yards and nine touchdowns for the Warriors on 98 touches.
Union Local dropped their first game of the season last week to Weir (42-14) after opening the season with five straight wins against the likes of Monroe Central(48-8), Buckeye Local (47-12), Martins Ferry (22-20), Harrison Central (37-34) and Edison (47-14).
Last year the Jets scored a 21-7 win over the visiting Warriors.
MAYSVILLE (4-2) AT MORGAN (2-4)
After a disappointing loss last week to John Glenn (42-21), Morgan will look to get back on track when they welcome a very solid Panther team.
Maysville won four of their first five games before dropping a 47-6 decision last week to conference leading Sheridan.
Morgan owns wins on the season over New Lexington (40-19) and Shenandoah (29-22).
Quarterback Dakota Leopold leads the Raiders offense and has completed 57-of-111 pass attempts on the season for 844 yards and eight touchdowns.
Cole Earich (42-165) and Wes Pauley(42-165) share the workload in the Morgan backfield while Dylan Johnson has caught 15 passes for 368 yards and four touchdowns.
Maysville thrashed the visiting Raiders 56-7 last season.
