Cross country teams all over the place Saturday

Morgan High could be the cross country team to beat at the Waterford Invitational, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Waterford Elementary School.
Also, on the same day, same time, Warren and Fort Frye are scheduled to run in the Cal Pokas OVAC Cross Country championship at Meadowbrook High in Byesville.
"There are three high school races," said Warren coach Neil Brague of the OVAC event. "Boys varsity (top 8) starts at 10 a.m.; girls varsity (top 8) starts at the conclusion of the first race.
"A combined boys/girls race will start immediately following the second race. Warren competes in the 5A classification in the OVAC, even though we are much smaller than most schools in 5A. Top 10 individuals in each class will receive medals, while the top 30 finishers will receive certificates naming them to the All-OVAC Cross Country Team."
Marietta High has a bye this week, and will be back in action Oct. 15 in the ECOL (East Central Ohio League) Championship at Cambridge High.
The Raiders are coming off a relatively good outing at last Saturday's Cambridge XC invite with the girls placing runners-up and the boys fifth.
In the girls' 5k run, three of the top 5 were from Morgan. Senior Jordan Penrod finished second in a time of 19 minutes, 47.09 seconds; junior Jozi Brown was third in 20:22.58. And, senior Jasmine Penrod was fifth in 20:56.25.
Junior Brandi Ross placed 29th in 23:31.86, while freshman Taylor Gorrell crossed the line in 25:33.62 to round out the Raider scoring.
Morgan tallied 70 points to first-place winner Carrollton's 35.
On the boys' side, the Morgan scorers were frosh Brayden Weber, senior Matt Mercer, junior Hunter Griffin, frosh Isaac Miller, and sophomore Logan Jacques. The Raiders with 148 points were fifth in an eight-school field.
Also in the Waterford invite field will be the host Wildcats, Belpre, Southern, "and maybe some other Tri-Valley Conference schools," according to WHS AD Kim Barker.
The Debbie Barnett-coached Waterford XC team will be featuring senior Andrew Klintworth, junior Kami Wilson, sophomore Emily Kern, and freshman Brooks Suprano.
Belpre's top male runners are expected to be sophomore Hunter Gilbert, freshman Kiser Windland, junior Cody Lewis, freshman Jackson Plummer, junior AJ Miranda, and sophomore Jerimiah Stitt.
Junior Hannah Deems, sophomore Faith Adkins, sophomore Trinity Daughterty, junior Tori Sydenstricker, and sophomore Briah Kerns are the top Lady Golden Eagle racers.
At the OVAC meet, Warren will be paced by sophomore Trent Sayre, sophomore Jake Herriott, senior Jed McGirr, freshman Preston Rowland-Demster, senior Colton Barnes, sophomore Brady Nicewarner, sophomore Kyle Burns, sophomore Michael Christian, and Joel Corbitt.
The featured Lady Warrior harriers will be sophomore Casey Brague, sophomore Caroline Stollar, junior Caitlyn Burroughs, senior Kaylee Pate, freshman Jenna Walters, junior Devyn Latture, sophomore Bailey Gentile, and junior Katelyn Chesser, and freshman Pearl Herriott. . .
Fort Frye's girls include senior Mary Kate McElroy and freshman Amanda Cooper. McElroy will be one of the favorites to finish first overall.
The Cadet boys are juniors' Cameron Booth, Raymond Cooper, and Owen Young; sophomores' Justin Anderson, Braden Lipot, Bailey Nesselroad, Joey Mankins, Jamie Evans, and Tyler Duskey; and freshmen Jack McElroy, and Jevin Ward.
