Belpre falls to South Gallia

BELPRE -- After the first three minutes of the first quarter, the Belpre girls basketball team faced a continuous climb against South Gallia Monday night at Belpre High School.
Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, the venture never reached its peak as the Rebels posted a 71-39 victory.
South Gallia, which improved to 14-5 and 7-3 in the Hocking Division of the Tri-Valley Conference, scored the game's first 10 points behind four different starters.
Playing its final TVC home game, Belpre's offense made a resurgence in the final minute of the period and rallied to within 15-10 on the strength of 3-pointers by Kaitlen Bush and Allie Jaraucaro and an Amber Amick putback.
A familiar pattern opened the second quarter as South Gallia ripped off eight straight points for a 25-10 advantage. During that span, each school experienced a scare from one of their starters. South Gallia's Jessie Rutt, who finished with 18 points, tweaked her left ankle and moments later Bush dove for a loose ball and slid headfirst into the bleachers.
Both girls eventually returned later in the second period. In fact, Bush was responsible for more than half of Belpre's scoring output after finishing with a game-high 20 points. Even with her ballclub trailing by as many as 22 points (50-28) in the third quarter, the junior accounted for 10 of Belpre's 12 points in the period.
Bush's second-half out topped out at 15 points. Belpre freshman Haley Alloway turned in a solid job in the post and added five points.
South Gallia, which defeated Belpre 59-38 in the first meeting, received a team-high 19 points from Tori Trickett and another 15 points from Macie Sanders, Triplett also led the Rebels with 18 points against Belpre back on that matchup exactly six weeks ago.
