Williamstown 5-0 after big win over St. Marys

PARKERSBURG -- Rickie Allen may go broke treating his linemen to Taco Bell.
The Williamstown running back singled out each and every one of his linemen during a postgame interview after rushing for 280 yards and four touchdowns in the Yellowjackets' 49-14 win over St. Marys Friday night at Stadium Field.
Allen scored all four of Williamstown's touchdowns and accounted for 259 yards in the first half alone as the Yellowjackets took a 28-14 lead into intermission.
"Our offensive line, they dominated the whole game," said Davis as he made his way on the field thanking each and every linemen who provided a major assist in the Yellowjackets' 432 rushing yards. ""I need to thank, (Jenner) Burge, Gunner (Henrie). I need to thank Jett (Nestor), (Brayden) Buckley. I need to thank Aiden Corbett. I think it will be a Baja Blast night at Taco Bell. That's what we did last night.
"A big advantage for me running the ball is that we have is that our wide receivers are selfless. They block really well on the outside."
Backup quarterback Colt Hesson took care of a majority of the second half offense, gaining all but three of his 136 yards after halftime. He rushed for one TD and threw while keeping the Yellowjackets perfect record intact at 5-0.
Nursing an injured shoulder, starting quarterback Maxwell played sparingly in the first half.
"Colt, that man is a stud," Allen continued. "In the first half, he went in there and was a little nervous. Then we started getting 50-yard dashes and I thought I was looking at Lamar Jackson."
Williamstown received quite a wake-up call, trailing after the game's first play from scrimmage resulted in a 66-yard touchdown completion from Luke Powell to Owen Ramsey. Ramsey did most of his damage on the ground,, finishing with 136 yards on 17 carries and a second-quarter touchdown run of 18 yards which cut the Yellowjacket deficit to 21-14.
That was the extent of the Blue Devil offense as Williamstown's Gunner Henrie and Lynken Joy both intercepted passes. The Yellowjackets also recovered a St. Marys fumble.
"We got beat," St. Marys coach Jodi Mote said after his club dropped to 3-2. "Obviously they made holes on offense and we had difficulty establishing a run and pass game."
A pivotal point in the game occurred in the latter stages of the second quarter. After Allen scored a 48-yard run to create a 28-14 lead for Williamstown, St. Marys' Ashton Boron hauled in the ensuing kickoff from his own 8, experienced a bit of a stumble on the catch but recovered and raced downfield toward the end zone.
A yellow hankie on the field, however, penalized the Blue Devils for a 15-yard illegal participation penalty when a St. Marys lost his helmet and remained on the playing field.
The drive started in the red zone and eventually reached the 4 on with fourth-and-goal facing the Blue Devils. Powell was unable to gather the snap from center and the Yellowjackets recovered and ran out the clock to end the first half.
In the second half, St. Marys' offense managed just two first downs and 41 yards of total offense.
"As soon as we got our feet under us defensively, I thought we played pretty well," Williamstown coach Chris Beck said. "I thought our defensive line played extremely well, especially there in the second half.
"We didn't have (Molessa), so what we did tonight speaks a lot about our resiliency, depth and our program."
St. Marys never recovered from Allen's first half TD runs of 1, 82, 40 and 48 yards.
"I always feel bad because I feel I don't say enough about Rickie," Beck said. "It seems like you can't say enough good things about him because you can't. The guy is a player, he is a leader. (Molessa) is not able to go 100 percent, so (Allen) steps up and does his thing. People forget about him. He is a really good player and he showed that tonight."
