Williamstown runner Grace Morgan headed to Marietta College

WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Williamstown running programs bring in no shortage of high-end talent. Regardless of experience level, WHS athletes perform when needed, and Grace Morgan is no exception.
Morgan is going to Marietta College to study economics and marketing. Athletically, she started running cross country this past season, where she stood out as one of head coach Mike Taylor's top XC athletes. She'll keep running at MC, where distance events will be her bread and butter.
"Marietta College is a very small campus, and I like the idea of it having the programs I want to pursue," she said. "Running is an extra thing that came along with it. It seems like a nice group (of runners). I'll be running in cross country with a mix of the 5K and the 6K. In track, I hope to run the 1600."
Morgan's growth gave coach Taylor another runner he could rely on, as he spoke of her impact on the program.
"Grace got started with her high school running career a little late," he said. "From the first day she showed up in the summer for conditioning and into the cross country season, she's improved immensely. She's got tremendous work ethic and a tremendous desire to be better. It's helped her to be a better athletic, and it's helped our team. I think she'll do great at the next level, especially with her being young to the sport."
Morgan had her signing ceremony on the same day as a rainy and blustery South Invitational, where she anchored the 4×800 relay.
"I think we'll all do pretty well," Morgan said prior to the meet. "It was pretty windy last Saturday, and the girls were first across. I think it's going to be a good race."
Her education comes first, though.
"A couple years ago, I started studying for the AP macreconomics exams," Morgan recalled.
"I really developed a love for economics. My parents (Eric and Alicia) own Morgan Building Designs. I've built a love for business and marketing. I hope to eventually go into real estate law to go into what they do with buildings."
The visit to Marietta College was also instrumental in her choice.
Last November, I got to go to an open house," Morgan said.
"I liked it there, so later, I contacted the coach, and we toured the athletic facilities. It's just a really good feeling."
