VINCENT — In a display of dominance, Warren’s boys basketball team defeated Fairfield Christian Academy by a final score of 76-15 Tuesday. The game was an opportunity for the Warriors to get everyone on the roster involved to be prepared down the stretch.
The first basket of the game was a layup by Warren’s Tyson Cochran after stealing the ball. Later in the quarter, Trent Taylor also managed a steal and dunked the ball on the fast break. He also made the next basket, but in less dramatic fashion. Taylor got an and-1 and made the free throw moments later.
Fairfield Christian’s Tucker Harper ended Warren’s 22-0 run with a basket. The score at the end of the quarter was 22-2. The Warriors racked up 10 steals in the first quarter. Warren’s ability to create turnovers would continue to be a factor throughout the night.
An and-1 by Brayden Stem of the Knights allowed Fairfield Christian to shrink the gap at the beginning of the second. Midway through the period, the score stood at 32-7. The Warriors demonstrated their passing ability when Jacob Sealey stole the ball and dished it to Julian Stadelman for the basket.
The half ended with Warren up 46-13, but not before Caleb Tullius blocked one of the Knights’ shots.
Colin Anthony contributed a block after halftime. The only 3-pointer of the game was scored by Connor Barry in the third. The quarter ended with Warren up 62-13. While adding 16 to their own total in the third, the Warriors did not give up a single basket to Fairfield Christian.
The fourth quarter was more of the same. Warren won by a final of 76-15 to advance to 8-2 on the season. The Warriors will be back in action on Friday, playing host to Point Pleasant at 7 p.m.
Warren head coach Blane Maddox gave his thoughts after the game, “It was nice to see everybody get in the scorebook, and I thought we shared the ball well.”
Having moved into the 2024 portion of the 2023-24 season, things are starting to ramp up as the postseason inches closer and closer. Maddox described the team’s mindset now that midseason is here, “We gotta clear up everything we’ve been talking about. It’s gotta be cleaned up now, there’s no more time to mess around. It’s gotta be cleared up now, and that’s what we’re trying to do in games like this is follow scouting reports, break bad habits, get rid of those habits and get ready for quality competition where things aren’t going to be easy.”
With games against Point Pleasant, Athens, Marietta, Fort Frye and Parkersburg on the schedule for the Warriors in January, Maddox said he is, “Looking forward to the next few weeks. Hopefully we see a lot of fans out here.”
