PARKERSBURG -- Former Parkersburg Catholic Crusader and Marshall University pitcher Patrick Copen has been promoted by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Copen, a seventh round draft pick last season, had been competing in the California League for the single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, but earned a ticket to the Midwest League where he will pitch for the high-A Great Lakes Loons in Michigan.

During his final appearance with the Quakes last week, Copen pitched 4 2-3 innings with six strikeouts to earn the win in relief of starter Clayton Kershaw, who was making a rehab appearance.

The 6-foot-6 right-hander finished 5-2 for the Quakes with a 3.15 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 54 1-3 innings.

Starting at /week.
