Fun times so far at Olympics

Honestly, I don’t give too much thought to the Olympics overall, but from the opening ceremonies on it’s been quite interesting to say the least.

Leading up to the Olympics, the biggest issue came with portions of the swimming where athletes had to compete in the Seine River.

Well, that’s not been anything to write home about if anyone has seen the footage from the competitors.

However, it should be noted Canadian swimmer Tyler Mislawchuk, who vomited 10 times following the men’s triathlon on Wednesday after the event was set to be postponed due to the water quality on Tuesday, didn’t blame the Seine River.

Of note, it’s been reported the French government spent more than a billion dollars trying to make the Seine River safe.

“Absolute disgrace at the Paris Olympics,” Craig Kelly, a former member of the Australian Parliament, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Athletes’ health has been badly compromised by being forced to swim in the filthy Seine River – all so politicians could boast about their fake environmental record.”

There was no faking it for Italian boxer Angela Carini during her match against Algerian opponent Imane Khelif, who like fellow boxer Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan was denied entry into last year’s world championships after failing a gender eligibility test.

The Daily Mail Online had a headline which read “Female boxer quits Olympic bout against biologically-male opponent and breaks down in floods of tears after brutal 46 seconds.”

Carini, who didn’t shake Khelif’s hand after the fight, opted to retire from her women’s welterweight round of 16 match.

“I’m used to suffering,” Carini was quoted as saying after the fight. “I’ve never taken a punch like that. It’s impossible to continue. I’m nobody to say it’s illegal. I got into the ring to fight, but I didn’t feel like it anymore after the first minute.

“I started to feel a strong pain in my nose. I didn’t give up, but a punch hurt too much and so I said enough. I’m leaving with my head held high. You all saw my nose that started bleeding. I didn’t lose tonight. I just surrendered with maturity.”

Fight fans looking for something to do Saturday evening should be in for some quality action at Dawghouse Promotions’ Southside Rumble 12, which is set to get underway at 6 p.m. inside Parkersburg South’s Rod Oldham Athletic Center.

Transgender fighter Brittani Vaughn of The Pit Boxing Club is set to take on Will MacMillian of Sam’s Gym for the Dawghouse Promotions lightweight belt.

Suffice it to say she’s on the side of the Italian.

“I just can’t believe after all of the controversy that has arisen from other trans athletes trying to compete in the women’s divisions that this would even be something that would happen,” expressed Vaughn. “The two individuals in question were disqualified and had their medals stripped away from them at the 2023 world championships because they failed their gender eligibility test for having XY chromosomes and high levels of testosterone.
