Pioneers fall to Wisconsin-La Crosse for 1st loss
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Marietta College men’s basketball lost to Wisconsin-La Crosse by the score of 99-75 Friday at the Great Lakes Invitational being hosted by Calvin University.
The loss drops Marietta to 3-1 on the season. La Crosse improves to 3-1 overall.
Marietta grabbed the early lead and led by as many as seven points, 19-12, seven minutes into the game. La Crosse battled back to tie the game, 21-21, when Torin Hannah hit one of two free throws at the 11:18 mark.
La Crosse maintained a small lead until exploding on a 25-8 run to close out the first half. The Eagles drained five three-pointers during the run and led 56-33 at halftime.
Marietta saw the deficit grow to 30-pus points in the opening minutes of the second half as the Eagles continued their hot shooting. A three-pointer from Ryan Magill cut the Eagle lead to 22 points, but with just 1:32 left in the game, the outcome was already determined.
Jayden Bradshaw led all scorers with 28 points. Bradshaw nailed six triples in the game. Frank Waganfeald finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. Jake Singleton and Landry Palata chipped in with nine and eight points, respectively.
La Crosse had five players in double figures. Dustin Derousseau scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds. Karter Thomas added 19 points, while Sam Greiger finished with 16 points. Will Fuhrmann and Hannah each had 12 points.
Marietta wraps up play in the Great Lakes Invitational on Saturday against Hope College at 1 p.m.
