Roundup: Warren beats Belpre for 10th straight win
VINCENT — Warren picked up its 10th win in a row Tuesday with a 73-46 triumph over Belpre at Warrior Coliseum.
Connor Barry scored a game-high 18 points for the Warriors, who improved to 15-2 with a trip to Bloom-Carroll set for Friday. Julian Stadelman added 17 points followed by 10 from Nick Cressey, eight from Hayden Wells and six each from Colin Anthony, Chase Lupardus and Tyson Cochran.
Belpre (7-8) was led by Malik Currie’s 12 points. Chase Maze, Nasaih Spencer and Chris Copen all netted six.
The Golden Eagles, who were outscored 46-12 in the first half but outscored the Warriors 34-27 in the second half, are back in action Friday at home against Federal Hocking.
Frontier 62, Bridgeport 59
NEW MATAMORAS — Down by six entering the fourth quarter, Frontier outscored visiting Bridgepor 24-15 over the final eight minutes to claim a 62-59 victory Tuesday at Hank Morus Gym.
Avery Powell led the Cougars (7-5) with 19 points. Kason Hoff added 12, True King netted 12 and Jacob Bowersock tallied 11 as part of a balanced Frontier attack.
FHS, which plays host to River today, trailed 25-19 after one, 32-25 at halftime and 44-38 after three.
St. Marys 65, Magnolia 63
NEW MARTINSVILLE, W.Va. — St. Marys’ Preston Lawhon scored a career-high 30 points to help lift visiting St. Marys past Magnolia 65-63 Tuesday.
Lawhon cashed in 12 field goals, including two 3-pointers, and was 4 for 6 at the free-throw line to lead the Blue Devils (4-9) in scoring. Ryan Kent added 17 points and nine rebounds for SMHS, which plays host to Williamstown Thursday, while Andre Anderson chipped in nine points.
The Devils trailed 17-15 after one but outscored the Blue Eagles 20-9 in the second to take a 35-26 halftime lead. Magnolia cut it to 47-41 by the start of the fourth, but St. Marys held on.
Kingston Christen scored a game-high 31 points to lead Magnolia. Dubale Greathouse added 23 points while Hunter Oates chipped in eight.
Southern 57, Wirt County 40
ELIZABETH — Andre Chandler scored a game-high 28 points as Southern cruised past Wirt County 57-40 Tuesday.
Chandler knocked down four 3-pointers for the Tornadoes, who also got 11 points from Brandon Laudermilt and nine from Landon Everson.
SHS led 16-10 after one, 30-19 at halftime and 46-31 after three.
The Tigers’ only double-digit scorers was Braylan Dawson, who had 10 points and three assists. Tyler Smith and Easton Wyer tallied eight points apiece, while Wyer also grabbed nine boards.
