Williamstown routs Buffalo in state quarterfinals

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Jayden Bryant had the hot hand to begin the state tournament for Williamstown.

The Yellowjacket sharpshooter was 4 for 8 from the 3-point line and finished with a game-high 27 points to lead WHS to a 74-39 victory over Buffalo in Tuesday’s Class AA state quarterfinals at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. Bryant also contributed three assists and three blocks for the ‘Jackets, who led 29-7 after one, 54-14 at halftime and 68-29 after three.

Cruz Isaly contributed 14 points and five assists for Williamstown while Tyler Keiser double-doubled off the bench with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Parker Schramm added 10 points, seven rebounds, three dimes and three steals.

Wyatt Powell registered seven boards and three steals while Lynken Joy pulled down eight rebounds.

Williamstown, which improved to 20-3, will take on either Wyoming East or Logan at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in the state semifinals.

Buffalo (10-15) was paced by Asher Flanery’s 18 points. Caleb Cales added seven points and three assists, Nathan Harris grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with three steals and Wesley Mallett finished with nine boards, as did Braxton Mitchell.

The Bison finished 25.4% (17 for 67) from the floor while the Yellowjackets were 42.3% (30 for 71).
