Along the two-mile race course: The Second Mile

After running the length of Juliana Street, racers will turn onto 13 Street for a few blocks.
As runners and walkers pass Parkersburg Catholic Elementary School, participants are beginning their second mile, heading into the Julia Ann Square Historic District.
Don’t forget to take in the beautiful houses. Faster runners of the two-mile have a better chance of catching the slower participants of the half marathon.
When runners and walkers reach 13th Street, don’t follow your half counterparts turning left, but rather your fellow two-milers turning right. This will place you at the bottom of the ominous 13th Street hill, but don’t worry as you will not have to go up it.
Turning right on Avery Street will place runners and walkers traveling the wrong direction down the street for a few blocks, but don’t worry, there will be no traffic.
Going down Avery Street, participants will soon pass the 1.5 mile marker. Turning right off Avery Street to 11th Street, runners and walkers will pass the Simmons Station Post Office before making the final left turn from 11th Street to Market Street. From here, it is a relatively flat and straight stretch before having a short downhill approaching the finish line.
The News and Sentinel Half Marathon and Two-Mile Race will be held Aug. 16.
