KIDWELL — Lyric Blake found the end zone five times to help lift Doddridge County to a 47-8 win over Tyler Consolidated Friday.

Blake scored on runs of 29, 21 and 11 yards and also caught TD passes of 17 and 26 yards from Brysen Dixon.

Dixon, who went 10 for 12 for 195 yards, also tossed TDs to Josh Dehaven (79 yards) and Landon Thomas (7 yards).

That all occurred after Tyler jumped on top on a 1-yard touchdown run by Christopher Hackathorn with 7:17 to go in the first quarter. Hackathorn’s two-point run made it 8-0 TCHS, but the Bulldogs finished the game on a 47-0 run.

Blake carried 11 times for 116 yards, Brandon Davis added 90 yards on 14 attempts and Brycen Eidel chipped in 65 yards on seven totes.

Doddridge, which improved to 3-0 and heads to Ravenswood next week, out-gained Tyler 510-73 in total yardage.

The Silver Knights (1-2) will try to bounce back next week when Petersburg invades.

Wirt 42, Calhoun 12

ELIZABETH — Adryon Hartford and Anthony Morgan both eclipsed 100 yards rushing to help lift Wirt County to a 42-12 win over visiting Calhoun County Friday night.

Hartford led the way with 181 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries while Morgan added 109 yards and two TDs on 11 rushes. Quarterback Tyler Smith also was solid through the air, going 15 for 23 for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns — one to Jakob Moore (8 yards) and one to Andrew Lemley (17 yards).

The Tigers, who are 2-1 and head to Gilmer County next week, also got a rushing touchdown from Brodie Goodwin.

The Red Devils (1-2) were denied their first win streak since 2015. They beat Richwood last week to snap a 26-game skid.

Brennen Carpenter and Gavin Hicks connected on a pair of touchdown strikes to account for Calhoun’s scoring. Carpenter finished 17 for 21 for 167 yards. He was picked off twice. He targeted Chase Schoolcraft early and often as Schoolcraft finished with 15 receptions for 120 yards.

The Red Devils visit Wahama next week.

Shadyside 13, Frontier 6

SHADYSIDE — Shadyside’s Ace Nelson ran for a pair of touchdowns, and on a night where points were hard to come by, that was enough to claim a 13-6 win over Frontier Friday.

Nelson scored from a yard out late in the first to give the Tigers a 7-0 advantage.

Frontier answered just before halftime when Avery Powell threw an 81-yard touchdown pass to Austyn Kephart. The two-point try failed to make it 7-6 SHS at the break.

With 22 seconds left in the third, Nelson found paydirt again, this time from 19 yards out, to put Shadyside up seven.

Frontier, which fell to 1-3 and visits Valley (Wetzel) next week, was unable to find the end zone in the final period. The Cougars were limited to 49 yards on 25 carries as a team. They found some success through the air as Powell went 11 for 18 for 202 yards, but two interceptions didn’t help the FHS cause.

Kephart caught five balls for 102 yards.

Nelson led the Tigers (2-2) with 90 yards on 17 carries.

Claymont 12, Marietta 0

URICHSVILLE — Marietta had its chances, but ultimately couldn’t finish drives in Friday’s 12-0 loss to Claymont.

The Tigers (0-4) forced four turnovers and limited big plays on defense, but the Mustangs (3-1) executed their bend-don’t-break approach and pitched a shutout.

Backed up to their own 5, Mustangs quarterback Carson Golec was picked off by Timmy Ryan, setting up the Tigers at the Claymont 23. However, on fourth and goal from the 11, MHS QB Trenton McVey had his pass to the end zone intercepted by Nolan McMorrow. McMorrow’s momentum took him out of bounds inside the 1.

Claymont put together a 99-yard drive, capped by Braylon Meuhlen’s 12-yard touchdown run, to take a 6-0 lead.

Marietta then drove the ball to midfield, but Kobe Alexander fumbled to give the Mustangs the ball back. Their ensuing possession was blown up on third and 10 when they tried a reverse, but Zach Carver was there for the tackle for loss.

The Tigers converted a pair of fourth downs on runs by Owen Riley, but Marietta eventually had to punt. A big return and a horse collar tackle gave Claymont the ball at Marietta’s 20, but Carver forced a fumble to give the ball back to the Tigers.

Once again, Marietta was unable to cash in with points. The Tigers punted, and Claymont found the end zone from 12 yards out on a pass from Golec to Jackson Jinks to make it 12-0 at halftime.

On the first possession of the third quarter, Jinks caught another pass but was stripped of the ball by Riley. Alexander recovered it at the Claymont 37, but that turnover did not translate to points as the Tigers were stopped on fourth down.

However, the Tigers got the ball right back when Ryker Gibeaut dislodged the ball from Meuhlen. Riley recovered it at the Mustangs’ 32. Once again, Marietta’s fourth and goal try came up short as the Tigers turned it over on downs.

CHS drove all the way to Marietta’s 7, and on cue, the Tigers forced and recovered another fumble.

This time, it was the Tigers’ turn to fumble as another drive came up empty. That was their last real chance to get back in the game.
