Top 10 finishes for Ravenswood cross country teams

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The Ravenswood High School cross country programs left Saturday’s Patty Forgey Invitational with respective 10th place finishes.

Seniors Gavin Offenberger of Waterford and Matthew Balis of Wirt County had the top area efforts. The Wildcat placed fourth after finishing in 16 minutes and 15 seconds. The Tiger was 15 seconds behind in sixth.

Ravenswood junior Gavin Wilburn (23rd, 17:10) and freshman teammate Johnny Heath (28th, 17:32) paced the Red Devils, who also received scoring runs from Mason Kerns (89th, 19:09), Isiah Nesselroad (91st, 19:10) and Kaden Gray (133rd, 20:15).

Waterford placed 14th in the 33-team field thanks to the help of Tyson Franchino (78th, 18:57), Unai Bustamante (85th, 19:01), Joel Jenks (132, 20:11) and Landon Strahler (189th, 21:19).

Freshman Drew Williams led the way for Belpre with a time of 18 minutes and 19 seconds, which was good for 52nd.

Ravenswood’s girls were aided to their No. 10 team showing by ninth-place senior Riley Sotomayor (20:44) and 20th-place junior Gwyn Gorrell (21:12). Also accounting in the team scoring for the Jackson County program were Linsey Barker (54th, 23:06), Alexis McVey (118th, 26:06) and Riley Curfman (125th, 26:53).

Waterford junior Emma Schaad had the next top area finish after placing 14th with a time of 20 minutes and 57 seconds.

The 18-team field featured Wirt County in 13th, Belpre in 14th and the Wildcats in 16th. Freshman Skylie Thompson, who was 66th with a time of 23:42, led the Tigers while freshman Golden Eagle Gabby Campbell was 50th with a time of 22 minutes and 50 seconds.

Calhoun Invitational

MT. ZION – Ritchie County swept the Calhoun Invitational here Saturday as the boys finished ahead of Webster County, 21-49, while the Rebel girls were the only full team in the field.

Ritchie County senior Bentlee Williams claimed gold with her winning time of 22 minutes and 41 seconds. The Rebels’ other scorers came via Charlee Haddox (6th, 27:44), Cassandra Hardbarger (8th, 28:16), Taylor Krolick (10th, 28:57) and Alivia Heckard (12th, 31:16).

Wood County Christian teammates Elliot Handley (23:45) and Amber Perkins (24:19) had a two-three finish while the host Red Devils received a four-five effort thanks to Pagie Sterns (25:50) and Carissa Sands (27:32).

The Wildcats from Williamstown watched junior Koa Navarro finish in 18 minutes and 51 seconds to top freshman Rebel runner-up Jenner Stewart, who clocked in at 19:04.

Following Stewart in the scoring for the Rebels were Kenson Roman (3rd, 20:27), Seth Cronin (4th, 20:54), Remi Jones (9th, 22:00) and Linhang Chen (10th, 22:12).

Clay County senior Kaden Fitzwater led the Panthers with a fifth-place clocking of 21:23 while Webster County was paced by sophomore Spencer Baird (6th, 21:31).
