Area cross country runners are state bound in Ohio

PICKERINGTON — For the first time since 2005, the Warren girls cross country team is going to state.

Led by Ashlee Pate, the Warriors placed sixth in the Division III, Region 10 meet Saturday at Pickerington North to punch their ticket.

Pate, a state qualifier last year, claimed a 21st-place finish, clocking in at 19:52. She was followed by teammates Rania Singh (46th; 20:28), Adi Greenup (64th; 21:02), Hollyn Reed (70th; 21:14) and Cate Edgell (94th; 21:50).

For the Warren boys, Luke Rettenberger is headed back to the state meet after finishing third at the Division II regional. Rettenberger, who won the district title last week, crossed in 15:35. Also scoring at regionals for the Warren boys were Alex Bishop (34th; 16:42), Spencer Rehl (67th; 17:18), Clay Perry (121st; 18:08) and Nick Bishop (126th; 18:12). The Warriors placed 10th as a team.

Marietta’s Hailey Powell punched her ticket to state in Division II, placing 11th with a time of 18:53. She’ll be the lone Tiger representative at Fortress Obetz. Teammate Teagan Brown finished 70th at 21:19. On the Marietta boys side, Emmett Parman PR’d with a time of 17:18 to finish 66th. Camden Space came in 158th (18:58) while Ian Putnam did not finish.

In Division IV, Waterford’s Gavin Offenberger and Fort Frye’s Brody Griffin will be representing Washington County at states.

Offenberger finished in 16:26 to place fifth overall, while Griffin placed 14th with a time of 16:52.

Drew Williams placed 29th (17:26) to lead Belpre.

On the girls side, Shenandoah’s Ida Estadt took home the individual regional championship with a time of 18:46.

Emma Schaad led Waterford, placing 49th at 21:44, while Shy Miller was Belpre’s top finisher at 54th (21:58).
