Area cross country teams shooting for state berth

PICKERINGTON — Coming off a Division III Southeast District championship, the Warren girls cross country team is going into Saturday’s regional meet at Pickerington North with a lot of momentum.
The Warriors are led by Ashlee Pate, who placed third overall at the district meet with a time of 19 minutes, 49 seconds to earn Runner of the Year honors. Adi Greenup (21:50), Rania Singh (21:51) and Hollyn Reed (21:53) finished 16th, 17th and 18th, respectively, while Julianna Huffman also scored by coming in 24th (22:24). All four runners earned all-district status.
At regionals, the top eight D3 teams will make it to state, as will the top 16 individuals not on qualifying teams. The Warren girls are the only D3 team in the area.
In Division II, the Warren boys were runners-up at the Southeast District meet.
Luke Rettenberger claimed the district title, crossing in 16:01 to earn District Runner of the Year honors. Also finishing in the top 10 was teammate Alex Bishop, who placed seventh with a time of 16:57 to earn all-district recognition. Spencer Rehl was 17th (18:04), Nick Bishop was 23rd (18:38) and Max Rehl was 25th (18:49) to round out the scoring for the Warriors, who will need to place top five as a team to advance to state. The top 10 individuals not on qualifying teams also will make it to state.
Both the Marietta boys and girls will be represented at state as well.
Hailey Powell was the Tigers’ top performer, placing fourth with a time of 19:42 to earn all-district status. Her and teammate Teagan Brown (18th; 22:56) both earned spots at the regional meet.
For the boys, Ian Putnam was sixth as districts with a time of 16:50 to earn all-district honors and advance to regionals. Joining him at regionals will be Emmett Parman (19th; 18:12) and Camden Space (38th; 19:49).
In Division IV, the Fort Frye boys team placed third at the East District meet to qualify for regionals.
Brody Griffin led the Cadets with a top-five finish, placing fourth with a time of 17:15. He was followed by teammates Declan Schaad (16th; 18:37), Ethan Huffman (17th; 18:44), Caleb Schaad (27th; 19:42) and Jude Kehl (36th; 20:23).
From Shenandoah, the boys team placed fourth at districts to advance to regionals. The Zeps were led by Emmitt Slevin (9th; 18:08) followed by Noah McElroy (11th; 18:11), Joel Tewksbary (15th; 18:32), Brant Stottsberry (30th; 20:04 and Kaden Rossiter (38th; 20:41).
On the girls side, district champion Ida Estadt (19:05) and 18th-placer Jusdena Clark will be heading to regionals.
Caldwell saw three total runners move on to regionals. For the boys, Alex Sheanshang (13th; 18:24) and Aiden Danford (19th; 19:01) both are moving on, while Emma Hayes will represent the girls team after placing 14th (22:02) at districts.
Elsewhere in D4, Waterford and Belpre raced in Rio Grande for the Southeast District meet.
On the girls side, the Golden Eagles and Wildcats both qualified for regionals as a team.
Emma Schaad worked her way into the top 10 for Waterford, placing sixth with a time of 21:18. Faith Ward was 30th (24:13), Alexa Teters was 38th (24:48), Adalyn Eichmiller was 72nd (30:30) and Kaylie McCutcheon was 76th (30:46) as Waterford placed fifth as a team.
Belpre was third as a team, led by Shy Miller’s 11th-place finish (21:52). Anna Miller was 16th (22:40.5), Gabby Campbell was 17th (22:40.8), Addy Stewart was 21st (23:10) and Chloe Brumbaugh was 48th (26:24) to round out the scoring for the Golden Eagles. Shy Miller, Anna Miller, Campbell and Stewart all made all-district.
It was more of the same for the Waterford and Belpre boys, as both schools advanced to regionals.
The Wildcats were seventh as a team at districts, with Gavin Offenberger’s third-place finish (16:11) leading the pack. Tyson Franchino was 45th (19:16), Unai Bustamante was 47th (19:25), Joel Jenks was 65th (20:12) and Garin Schaad was 81st (21:30).
For Belpre, Drew Williams made all-district by finishing 11th (17:48). Also scoring at districts for the Golden Eagles were Paxton Hundall-Bolian (48th; 19:25), Alex Parker (55th; 19:48), Maddox Crumm (58th; 19:52) and Kadyn Davis (85th; 21:45).
