PARKERSBURG – Here Thursday evening inside Memorial Fieldhouse during a morphed quadrangular, Parkersburg first-year head coach Tammy Fisher watched senior libero Brenan Harvey collect her 1,000th career dig as the Big Reds inched closer to the .500 plateau following a trio of victories.
Belpre, which had early leads in the second set versus PHS, fell 25-9 and 25-19 before Williamstown handed Parkersburg Catholic a 25-11, 25-10 setback.
The Crusaderettes had the next shot at the Big Reds, but came up short 25-7, 25-10 while the Yellowjackets got things going in the second set, but didn’t have quite enough to push it to a third and suffered a 25-13, 25-23 defeat.
Kennedy Porter had a kill, a block and three consecutive aces to help PHS jump ahead 13-3 versus Belpre, which had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in set two thanks to downed spikes by Calli Meredith and Khloe Cooper. A Gracie Bills block of Porter squared it at three as the Golden Eagles had an 8-7 cushion following a Lucy Ruble ace, but Chloe Gribble served up one of her own following a BHS attack error and the Big Reds led for good.
Harvey earned match point on another attack error.

“I think we did really good today. We finally merged together, played together,” Harvey said. “I think this will help us get momentum. Tournament play is two, three weeks away. I think it will help us.
“My 1,000th dig, it’s been a goal of mine since my freshman year so it’s really special to me. I think communication is always a goal of ours and we’re focusing on that. It’s getting a lot better and we’re just being more of a team.”
Williamstown libero Keatyn Haynes served for 11 straight, including an ace, to open the match versus Parkersburg Catholic, which got its first kill from Annie Tokodi-Ruth via a Meg Roedersheimer assist, which made it 15-3. Haynes earned set point thanks to a Riley Haines kill.
The ‘Jackets pushed ahead 6-1 in set two following a Maggie Frye ace, but PCHS closed it to 6-3 after a Tokodi-Ruth kill with Kylee Maggiacomo at the service line.
However, Haines helped WHS take complete control as she served for 13 straight, which included a trio of aces.

Although Allison Lazor had a downed spike to give Kayleigh Reed a service tally, a Chloe Mulligan kill made it 22-8 and Frye earned match point for Haynes at the line when she got a kill via a Jordyn Gains assist.
Parkersburg Catholic, which fell to 7-16-1 and has a tri Tuesday at Wood County Christian, continued to have serve-receive issues versus the Big Reds.
Bella Bowman had a run of nine straight points that featured five aces as PCHS fell behind 14-2. Porter strung together three aces and in between Saige Ashcroft had a kill to push the lead to 19-5.
Kelina Utietiang had back-to-back aces, which made it 23-7, as the red and white closed out the set thanks to an Ava Sayre kill and TC Allen earning point No. 25 on a PCHS attack error.
PHS opened set two with a Calista Mace kill and Harvey followed with four consecutive aces as the hosts bolted ahead 8-0. Ily Bowman had a chance to end the match with four straight aces as well, but had to settle for three after the Crusaderettes got a pass up, but it resulted in an attack error.

Sienna Strcula and Frye had back-to-back kills to give Williamstown an early 8-7 lead versus PHS in set one. The ‘Jackets still led 15-14 following consecutive downed spikes from Mulligan and Reagan Corbett, but the Big Reds ran off the final 11 points with Sayre at the service line.
Despite falling behind 16-10 in set two, WHS battled all the way back to 24-22 after Strcula put one to the floor, but Mace and Porter had a double block of Kerby for match point.
Williamstown (15-14-4) also returns to action on Tuesday at Charleston Catholic while Belpre (2-20) opens tournament play as the No. 13 seed the same evening at No. 4 seed Lynchburg Clay, which is not quite a three-hour drive.
Coach Fisher’s squad will carry a 12-13 mark into Tuesday’s tri with Wahama at Ripley.
“I think we found a lineup,” admitted coach Fisher. “I really do. I’m really proud of all of them. Brenan getting that 1,000th is pretty awesome. Kennedy and Ava were setting and hitting.

“It was really a team effort. We did some different things yesterday (in practice) and it paid off. We’re trying to work out our system more. I can’t be more happy with these three wins. It’s about confidence.”
