Hoops roundup: Cadets upset Redskins in OT
CALDWELL, Ohio — Wyatt Duskey’s basket with two seconds left in overtime gave Fort Frye a 52-51 victory over Caldwell Tuesday and helped deliver FFHS head coach Erin Henniger his 200th career victory.
The Cadets snapped a seven-game losing streak, which began with a 47-32 loss to the Redskins on Dec. 30. It looked like it might be more of the same this time around as the Cadets trailed 18-9 after one. However, Fort Frye outscored Caldwell 12-5 in the second to cut it to 23-21 by halftime. It was 31-30 after three before the Cadets outscored the hosts 12-11 in the fourth to force OT.
Dylan Schott, who finished with a game-high 24 points, splashed a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left in the extra session to put CHS up 51-50.
Grady Hesson had the ball at the top of the key for the Cadets. With the final seconds ticking away, Hesson dished to Duskey, who slashed straight the basket and put up a shot off the glass and in. Schott’s full-court heave came up short.
Caden Henniger led Fort Frye, which visits Marietta Thursday, with 14 points. Kainan Bradford added 10 points while Duskey and Hesson chipped in seven apiece. Hesson also finished with six rebounds and a game-high five assists while Terry Tompkins led all rebounders with 10 to go along with six points and three steals.
Schott knocked down five 3-pointers for Clint Crane’s Redskins, who also got 10 points from Kyler Starr. Guiler Preston added nine rebounds and a game-high four steals while Dalton Egnot chipped in seven boards. Caldwell, which gets a week off before heading to rival Shenandoah next Tuesday, finished just 18 for 52 (34.6%) from the floor and 8 for 18 from the free-throw line.
