Hoops roundup: Marietta girls knock off Shenandoah, 41-39
MARIETTA — Marietta rallied from a six-point fourth-quarter deficit to knock Shenandoah from the unbeaten ranks Saturday afternoon at Sutton Gym.
The Tigers outscored the Zeps 19-11 over the final eight minutes to claim a 41-39 victory. Shenandoah had won its first 13 games to begin the season.
Marietta (6-8) led 11-9 after one, but SHS had it knotted up at 15-all by halftime. The Zeps used a 13-7 run coming out of halftime to take a six-point lead into the final stanza before Marietta came storming back.
The Tigers, who visit Meigs on Monday, were led by Lauren Elliott’s 11 points. Braxtyn Kroft added 10 and Fiona Fowler, who was a perfect 6 for 6 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, tallied nine. Hayleigh Chidester chipped in seven points and led the Tigers with three assists.
Shenandoah received a game-high 18 points from Molly Van Fleet. Brenna Leach added eight while Emily Moore netted six. The Zeps will look to rebound Wednesday when they visit Fort Frye, which will be a rematch from Jan. 3 when Shenandoah beat the Cadets 66-60 in overtime.

Marietta 58, Athens 46
The Marietta boys defeated Athens 58-46 Saturday at Sutton Gym.
Owen Riley led Marietta (13-2) with 21 points. Zaiden Wittekind added 14 points while Lucas Miller chipped in eight. The Tigers, who visit Belpre on Tuesday, also got a huge spark from sophomore Keaton Mace off the bench. Mace finished with eight points.
Marietta has won nine straight games.
