Hoops roundup: Waterford falls to Southern, 52-47
RACINE — Waterford took Southern down to the wire, but the Tornadoes held on for a 52-47 win to remain unbeaten in TVC Hocking play Friday.
Finn Pennock led all scorers with 22 points, but the Wildcats had their four-game win streak snapped to drop to 6-9. Reese Lang added 11 points for Waterford, which plays host to Warren on Tuesday.
The Tornadoes (11-2) got 20 points from Reed Brinager while Andre Chandler added 10. Jake Wickline and Lane Edwards chipped in seven apiece for SHS, which trailed 12-9 after one but rallied for a 31-29 halftime advantage. The Tornadoes outscored the Wildcats 12-10 in the third and 9-8 in the fourth to hang on.
Ritchie County 80, St. Marys 30
ST. MARYS — Seth Cronin and Isaac Hodges combined for 57 points as Ritchie County cruised to an 80-30 win during Friday’s St. Marys Invitational.
Saturday’s consolation and championship games have been postponed due to impending weather.
Cronin buried six 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 30 points for the Rebels (8-4). Hodges added 27 points while Turner Shriver and Asher Stephens chipped in six apiece.
RCHS led 25-9 after one, 43-16 at halftime and 67-26 going into the fourth.
The Blue Devils (1-11) were led by Roe Maston’s 11 points. Greg Jemison notched seven rebounds.
