Hoops roundup: Frontier knocks off Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT — Frontier jumped all over Bridgeport early and never looked to claim a 66-46 victory Tuesday.

The Cougars (11-5) outscored the Bulldogs (12-3) 18-6 in the first quarter to set the tone. They led 35-17 at halftime and extended the lead to 57-24 by the end of the third. Bridgeport battled in the final eight minutes but never threatened Frontier’s lead.

Kason Hoff led the Cougars with 23 points. Avery Powell added 16, Jacob Bowersock netted 12, Hunter Taylor tallied nine and Braden Powers chipped in six.

Jaleel Vincent matched Hoff in game-high point honors with 23.

Frontier will host a rematch with the Bulldogs on Friday.

Warren 54, Athens 44

THE PLAINS — Blake Grimes and Caleb Tullius scored 17 points apiece to help lift Warren past Athens 54-44 Tuesday.

The Warriors, who improved to 10-8 with a week off before a home against Belpre next Tuesday, led 13-8 after one, 24-20 at halftime and 40-35 going into the fourth.

Liam Grosselin chipped in six points for Warren, which overcame a 3-for-13 effort at the free-throw line.

The Bulldogs (5-11) got 10 points from Jaxon Warner, eight apiece from Collin Chapman and Hayden Hughes and seven each from Zachariah Mullins and Wren Ballew.

Ritchie County 74, Tyler Consolidated 36

ELLENBORO — Elsa Law scored a game-high 30 points and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career in Ritchie County’s 74-36 win over Tyler Consolidated Tuesday.

Law, a junior, rebounded her own missed free throw in the second quarter and drew another foul, getting back to the line and making her first attempt to reach the milestone.

She also notched 10 rebounds, nine steals and eight assists for the Rebels, who led 28-8 after one, 52-19 at halftime and 66-31 after three.

Chelsie Jeffrey canned three 3-pointers and added 14 points, Cassie Hardbarger netted eight points and Abbigayl Cox and Jordin Bailey chipped in six points apiece.

Tyler was paced by Sloan Wall’s 17 points. Addison Reed added eight and Rylee Wise tacked on six.

Ritchie, which improved to 11-3, visits Williamstown on Thursday.
