Hoops roundup: Tigers knock off Bobcats, 42-38

FRANKLIN FURNACE — Lauren Elliott buried four 3-pointers and scored a team-high 12 points to help lead the Marietta girls to a win over the Division VII 15th-ranked Green Bobcats Saturday.
The Tigers (8-9) led 13-11 after one thanks in part to a trio of 3-pointers from Blaire Reed, who scored all nine of her points in the opening period. Braxtyn Kroft chipped in nine points of her own while Hayleigh Chidester and Fiona Fowler added six points each for MHS, which plays host to Newcomerstown on Monday.
Green (12-3), which got a game-high 27 points from Abbie Knapp, trailed 21-18 at halftime and 29-26 after three. Addison Blizzard added six points for the Bobcats.
Fort Frye 49, Belpre 28
BEVERLY — Rae Morgenstern scored a game-high 19 points to lead Fort Frye past Belpre 49-28 Saturday.
The Cadets (15-2) pulled away in the second quarter. Up 8-7 after one, Fort Frye outscored the Golden Eagles 16-7 in the second to go up 24-14 at halftime. FFHS extended the lead to 38-19 by the end of three.
Khoen Courson and Ava Huffman added nine points apiece for the Cadets, who play host to Monroe Central on Monday in the OVAC 3A semifinals, while Ella Dowler chipped in eight.
Belpre (5-14) was led by Gracie Bills’ nine points. Chey Parsons added eight for the Golden Eagles, who entertain Southern on Tuesday.
Morgan 64, River View 39
WARSAW — Four players scored in double figures for Morgan as the Raiders dominated River View 64-39 Saturday.
Myleigh Williams scored a team-high 16 points for Morgan, which improved to 9-8 and visits Tri-Valley on Monday. Myka Augenstein added 13 points, Gianna Myers tallied 12 and Maya Davis netted 11. Madelyn Schaad pitched in six for the Raiders.
The Black Bears (2-15) got a game-high 18 points from Elaina Brenly while Kortnee Mickle contributed 10 and Regan Foster finished with eight.
BOYS
Waterford 54, Trimble 47
WATERFORD — Waterford pulled out a 54-47 win over Trimble Friday night at Harry Cooper Annex.
Earlier in the season on Dec.12, the Wildcats bested the Tomcats 51-46 in overtime. They completed the sweep Friday to improve to 7-9. Trimble fell to 5-14.
Waterford, which plays host to rival Fort Frye on Tuesday, got 21 points and four assists from Reese Lang. Finn Pennock added 16 points and three blocks, Gavin Hiener netted eight points and Weston Fairchild finished with seven points and seven rebounds.
Caldwell 63, Monroe Central 54
CALDWELL — Caldwell exacted some revenge against defending state champion Monroe Central Friday night.
After losing to MCHS 61-52 on Jan. 13, the Redskins (12-2) turned the tables on Friday with a 63-54 triumph over the Seminoles (13-2).
Guiler Preston led Caldwell, which plays host to Barnesville on Tuesday, with 20 points. Dalton Egnot added 16 points while Dylan Schott chipped in 14.
Monroe Central faces another tough test on Tuesday when it welcomes undefeated Wheeling Central.
