Abbie Smith, Kenzie Dalton earn top MEC basketball honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Concord’s Abbie Smith has been named the Mountain East Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, per a vote of the league’s head coaches. Smith, a senior from Little Hocking, Ohio, and a Warren High School graduate, is averaging 18.8 points per game and leads the league in rebounds per game averaging 10.8 a contest.
Wheeling’s Kenzie Dalton has been named the MEC Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season. The senior from Marietta, Ohio, and a Fort Frye High School graduate, leads the MEC in steals with 95 on the season while averaging 3.4 per contest. Dalton has also help lead the Cardinals to the best Scoring Defense in the league allowing opponents just 58.9 ppg.
West Virginia Wesleyan’s Kilah Dandridge has been named the MEC Freshman of the Year. The Martinsburg, W.Va., native is fifth in the league in scoring, averaging 16.0 points per game and third in the MEC in Field Goal Percentage at .541 percent.
West Virginia Wesleyan’s Brett Vincent has been named the MEC Coach of the Year. Vincent, a Shinnston, W.Va., native, helped the Bobcats to a 18-6 overall record and 15-5 in league play while securing the overall No. 2 seed in the MEC Tournament this week. He is in his fifth season at the helm for the Bobcats.
