Etta Express drops 2 to Berry

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. — Berry posted two come-from-behind victories over Marietta College Saturday.

The Vikings won 9-7 in the continuation of a game suspended from Feb. 28 and then won Saturday’s originally scheduled game, 8-6.

The day started with Marietta leading 7-5 in the top of the sixth inning of the game started in Marietta last weekend. The Pioneers had taken the lead with six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Drew Mckenna and Bradley Jones had two-run doubles, while Trevor Hall smacked an RBI double and Bryce Bogan drove in a run with a single.

Berry plated three runs in the sixth and added an insurance run in the ninth inning for the win. The Vikings got sacrifice flies from Chance Edmonds and Riley Uhls in the sixth and Uhls hit a solo home run in the ninth.

Cooper Fiehrer (0-1) was tagged with the loss. He gave up three unearned runs on one hit in 2.1 innings. Luke Czarnomski started the game on the mound last weekend and worked 3.0 innings giving up three runs on four hits.

Cam Welsh (1-0) picked up the win tossing 4.1 innings of shutout baseball. He allowed two hits and struck out two. Jon Strydon threw the ninth inning for the save.

Hall was the lone Pioneer with two hits in the game, both doubles. Marietta had six doubles in the game.

In Saturday’s originally scheduled game, Marietta jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first. Michael Ciavolella got things started with a two-run double. Drew Mckenna plated a run with a single and Diego DeCello and Jameson Embrescia each drove in a run with doubles.

Will Waters got Berry on the board with an Rbi single to right field in the second. McKenna knocked in Marietta’s final run with a ground out in the fifth for a 6-1 Pioneer lead.

Berry scored in each of the next four frames for the win. The Vikings plated three in the fifth, one in the sixth, two in the seventh, and one more in the eighth.

Marietta used eight different pitchers in the game. Czarnomski started and threw 2.0 innings giving up one run on two hits. Austin Ziance (1-2) took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in one-third of an inning.

Eric Fountain (2-1) got the win in relief for Berry. He worked 2.0 innings and gave up one run on two hits. Jackson Collett started and lasted one-third of an inning giving up five runs on three hits. Strydom struck out two Pioneers in the ninth for his second save of the day.

Ciavolella, DeCello and Embrescia each had a double and a single in the game for the Pioneers.

Marietta plays No. 16-ranked Case Western on at 1 p.m. Monday in. Lexington, S.C.

SOFTBALL

VIERA, Fla. — The Marietta College softball team opened the 2026 season Saturday at the Space Coast Spring Games. The Pioneers lost to Wisconsin-Superior, 2-0, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 8-3.

Wisconsin-Superior got a one-out triple from Larissa Snyder in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tessa Twedt followed with a double driving in Snyder. Later in the inning, Samantha Swartz smacked a single to center plating Kylie Zwak, who reached on a walk.

Abby Mitchell (3-1) scattered four singles and struck out four to get the shutout win. Aiyana Hancock (0-1) started in the circle for Marietta and was tagged with the loss, working 4.0 innings. She allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Kylie Cobb made her collegiate debut and gave up no runs on one hit in 2.0 innings of work. She walked two and struck out one.

Liz White had a pair of singles for the Pioneers. Adisson Heath and Katie Sweeney had one hit apiece. Snyder went 2-for-3 with the triple for Wisconsin-Superior.

In the second game of the day, RPI took advantage of some control issues in the circle for Marietta to score three runs in the top of the first inning. Sarah Decker and Olivia Termi each worked bases-loaded walks driving in runs. Evann McDowell plated the third run with a single.

The Pioneers got on the board in the second inning when Becca Streets led off with a triple and scored on a ground out from Katies Sweeney. A Marietta error led to a pair of unearned runs for RPI in the third. MC got the runs right back in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single from Heath.

Rensselaer added an insurance run in the sixth and two more in the seventh for the 8-3 victory.

Decker (1-0) started and got the win throwing 4.0 innings. She allowed three runs on three hits with two walks and one strikeout. Jackie Cutting pitched 2.0 shutout innings and Nicole Spaulding worked a scoreless seventh inning.

Candace Walters (0-1) took the loss. She started and pitched 4.2 innings giving up five runs, three earned, on seven hits with seven walks and two strikeouts. Emma Cozza was charged with three runs, one earned, on four hits in 2.1 innings of work.

Camryn Campbell went 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead Marietta’s offensive attack. Streets had a triple and scored a run.

Callista Adorno had three hits for RPI including a double. Addison Shaffer and Lauren Cosselman each had two hits in the game.
