Warren boys, girls sweep Fairweather Relays

VINCENT — Warren put together a commanding performance on both the girls and boys sides to sweep team titles at the Fairweather Relays Saturday.

The Warren girls totaled 70 points to fend off Federal Hocking (52) and Alexander (30), while the boys were even more dominant, racking up 80 points ahead of Alexander (48), Fort Frye (16) and Federal Hocking (16).

On the girls’ side, Warren claimed wins in the 4×1 (Emma Parker, Adelynn Russell, Keaghan Pittman, Lexi Wigal; 55.79), the 4×2 (Emma Parker, Juliana Huffman, Sydney Starcher, Adelynn Russell; 1:54.64), the ironwoman relay (Josi Waterman, Mariska Benedict, Tayler Welch, Emma Lankford; 1:06.62), the 4×8 (Camryn Edgell, Mia Fluharty, Adilynn Greenup, Hollyn Reed; 11:10.82) and 4×16 (Hollyn Reed, Adilynn Greenup, Jaelynn Nichols, Ashlee Pate; 24:12.29).

In the field for Warren, Sydney Starcher led the way with a winning high jump of 5-4, while Juliana Huffman topped the long jump at 16-9.5.

Runner-up Federal Hocking won the 800 sprint medley (Avery Edwards, Annamarie Montle, Denise Stokes, Ellie Needs; 1:56.01), the distance medley (Cora Kneier, Juni Ballew, Estelle Ripple, Elsie Amlin; 15:17.62) and the shuttles (Juni Ballew, Rorie Tabler, Piper King, Annamarie Montle; 1:11.96). Annamarie Montle was also victorious for the Lancers, winning the pole vault at 11-6.

Fort Frye’s Reiley Miller won the shot put (33-5.5) and the discus (98-0) to sweep the throwing events.

The Warren boys captured gold in the majority of the events, including the ironman relay (Gavin Cox, Ryan Reynolds, Owen Eller, Craig Bennett; 53.25), the 4×2 (Conner Curtis, Kolten Venham, Wesley Sealey, Davin Dickel; 1:38.58), the 4×4 (Clay Perry, Logan Norman, Spencer Rehl, Emrick Lizon; 3:44.05) the 4×8 (Eli Reynolds, Nick Bishop, Spencer Rehl, Kyle Anthony; 8:57.84), the 4×16 (Spencer Rehl, Alex Bishop, Curtis Reynolds, Luke Rettenberger; 20:02.65), the sprint medley (Eric Carr, Davin Dickel, Emrick Lizon, Clay Perry; 1:39.45), the distance medley Warren (Caden Arnold, Kyle Anthony, Alex Bishop, Luke Rettenberger; 11:42.10).

Craig Bennett swept the throws, recording 43-6 in the shot and 118-5 in the disc. Carr won the long jump with a mark of 20-8.5.

For good measure, the Warriors also won the mixed 4×4 relay (Kyleise Britton, Rania Singh, Clay Perry, Mason Werry; 4:04.23).

“Relay meets –and hosting — are always a challenge, especially trying to introduce events that we don’t normally do, but it’s nice to work a lot of our kids in different spots due to the way the events line up,” said Warren head coach Tony Zaleski. “Craig Bennett had a nice day for the boys, leading individually in the shot put and disc, anchored the winning ironman relay and contributing in the runner up shuttle hurdle squad. On the girls’ side Juliana Huffman was impressive. Individual leader in long jump and set a new PR for herself while also anchoring the winning 4×4 and had a nice split in the 4×2. Happy to start the season strong at home. Excited to see where we grow from here.”
