Etta Express drops two to Mount Union

Marietta College lost a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference baseball games to No. 8 ranked Mount Union Wednesday evening at Pioneer Park.
The Purple Raiders won game one, 5-2, and then took the nite cap, 6-3 in seven innings. The second game was called due to lightning.
Marietta moves to 8-20 overall and 5-7 in the OAC. Mount Union improves to 28-6 on the season and 12-2 in the OAC.
Mount Union built a 5-0 lead in the first game. Trevor Szekely got the Purple Raiders on the board with a two-run opposite field home run over the left field wall in the second inning. Mount Added a run in the third, fifth and eighth innings.
Marietta got on the board in the bottom of the ninth. Michael Ciavolella led off with a single and following a ground out, Zack Molloy hit a towering home run to left center.
Ty Dennison (7-0) went the distance on the mound for Mount Union. He allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts. Luke Czarnomski (1-4) started and got the loss for Marietta allowing four runs on five hits in 5.0 innings of work.
Ciavolella was the lone Pioneer with two hits in the game.
A four-run fifth inning led the Purple Raiders to victory in game two. Diego DeCello gave Marietta an early lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the first. Mount Union answered with one run in the second and one in the third off a solo home run from Jake Jung.
In the fifth, a Pioneer error led to four unearned runs for the Purple Raiders. Luke Ickes plated the first run with a sac fly. Daniel Tome had an RBI single, and Chris Tsouras hit a two-run home run.
Marietta tried to rally in the bottom of the fifth. Molloy made it a three-run game with a two-run single.
Ickes (7-0) started and got the win on the mound. He worked 5.2 innings and gave up three runs on five hits with 11 strikeouts. Christopher Maurer got the save, throwing one-third of an inning. Evan Wilson (1-2) took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits in 4.0 innings.
Bradley Jones had two hits for Marietta.
Marietta hosts Capital for Community Day on Saturday at 1 p.m.
