Local swimmer captures national title

PARKERSBURG — The YMCA of Parkersburg is proud to announce that local swimmer Levi Priddy captured a national title in the 100 Freestyle at the 2026 YMCA Short Course National Championship, held last week in Greensboro.

In addition to his national championship performance, Priddy also placed 6th in the 100 Backstroke, further solidifying his place among the top swimmers in the country.

Priddy represents the YMCA of Parkersburg and is a graduating senior at River Valley High School in Bidwell, Ohio. His success is a reflection of both his dedication and the strong support system behind him, his family makes the daily drive to Parkersburg to ensure he can train consistently at the YMCA.

“Levi’s accomplishment is truly remarkable,” said Benton Walker, CEO of the YMCA of Parkersburg. “To win a national title while representing our YMCA and our region is something our entire community can take pride in,” said JR Kerr, Program Director at the YMCA of Parkersburg.

Priddy’s success extends beyond the national stage. At the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II State Championships, he earned 1st place in the 50 Freestyle and 2nd place in the 100 Freestyle, showcasing his elite performance at both the state and national levels.

“Levi is one of the most mentally in the game swimmers I have ever met,” shared Sarah Nisewarner, head coach of the YMCA of Parkersburg Sharks Swim Team. “Yogi Berra said that baseball is 90% mental and the other half physical, and swimming is no different. Levi knows exactly what to do, when to do it, and how to execute his races. It’s been an honor coaching and watching him grow and develop in this sport.”

Looking ahead, Priddy will continue to compete at the highest levels of the sport, with upcoming appearances at the USA Swimming Futures Championships, the 18U division of the TYR Pro Series, and Speedo Junior Nationals.

Starting at $2.99/week.
