Pioneer softball swept by Raiders

ALLIANCE — Dominant pitching led Mount Union to a doubleheader sweep of Marietta College Wednesday afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference softball.
The Purple Raiders won game one, 8-0 in five innings, and took game two, 6-1. Marietta moves to 18-16 overall and 4-8 in the OAC. Mount Union improves to 25-5 overall and 13-1 in the OAC.
Mount Union’s Kendyll Cahill (6-2) tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout in the first game. She walked one and struck out seven. Aiyana Hancock (5-5) started and got the loss for Marietta. Hancock allowed four runs on six hits in 3.0 innings.
The Purple Raiders smacked five RBI doubles and one run-scoring triple in the game. For the game Mount Union had 11 base hits, six of them for extra bases.
Becca Streets had the lone Pioneer hit.
In game two, Mount Union plated five runs in the fifth inning for a 6-0 lead. Emma Reemsnyder (5-0) started in the circle for the Purple Raiders and got the win allowing no runs on two hits in 5.0 innings. Camryn Kiefer (0-1) started for Marietta and took the loss after giving up six runs, three earned, on five hits in 5.0 innings.
Grace Bates provided the big hot for Mount Union as she slugged a grand slam to right center in the fifth inning.
Liz White, Jocelyn Grassman, and Allie Sheen had Marietta’s hits in the game.
Marietta plays at Capital on Saturday at 1 p.m.
