Spring Sports Stars (4/14)
BASEBALL
*Reese Davis pitched a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts in Tyler Consolidated’s 3-0 win over St. Marys. Davis also drove in two of the Silver Knights’ three runs.
SOFTBALL
*Rocklyn Marcum struck out nine batters over three hitless innings in Ritchie County’s 18-0 win over Williamstown. She was also 4 for 4 at the plate with a triple, a double, four runs scored, three runs driven in and three stolen bases.
*Zoey Smithberger pitched a complete game with five strikeouts and also scored two runs in Waterford’s 6-5 win over Belpre. Vada Stout and Kaylee Martin each had a double for the Wildcats. Lucy Ruble and Madi Lauer both doubled twice and drove in a run for the Golden
*Emma Lang homered and drove in two runs in Warren’s 4-3 victory over Vinton County. Bralynn Bonnette was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI for the Warriors.
*Abby Miller pitched a complete game and doubled twice while driving in four runs in Marietta’s 14-8 win over Alexander. Keely Hanson went 3 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBIs while Samantha Mayo went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and scored a pair.
*Krista Durkin tripled, doubled and drove in two runs in Parkersburg’s 15-0 win over South Charleston. JoJo Wilson tripled, singled and plated two runs for the Big Reds.
*Aerie Varner pitched a complete game with six strikeouts in addition to tripling and bringing in a run in Magnolia’s 5-4 win over Bridgeport. Aubrey Suter was 3 for 4 with two runs scored.
TENNIS
*Alex Marshall had a clean 8-0 win over Chase Willits in Parkersburg’s 6-1 win over Hurricane. Cale Stutler and Isaac Stephens swept their doubles match for the Big Red boys while Liya Tewodros set the tone for the PHS girls with an 8-4 win over Hurricane’s Juliana Tankersly in No. 1 singles action in a 7-0 win over the Redskins.
