BELPRE — The visiting Warren Warriors scored six times in the second inning and 12 more in the third and never looked back en route to a convincing 22-1, five-inning win Friday night over the Belpre Golden Eagles.

A patient Warren offense took first base 10 times via the base on balls early on and then began to make solid contact as they sent the Eagles down to their ninth straight loss to begin the 2026 season.

Eight different Warriors batters scored at least two runs while seven Warriors knocked in at least a pair of runs.

The big win allowed Warren head coach Katie Wells to use the latter innings of the game as a bit of a scrimmage to prepare her team for some closer contests down the road.

“Getting the big lead allowed us to work on some things that we don’t always get opportunities to work on,” said Wells. “We were trying some different things in the batters box and really trying to work on our head game more than anything else.”

Belpre starting pitcher Lucy Ruble struggled with her control early on as she allowed a single run in the opening inning without allowing a base hit.

Warren starting pitcher Peyton Metz allowed a base hit to Ava Brookover in the bottom of the first but did not allow the Eagles to score.

The Warriors jumped all over Ruble in the second inning as, after back-to-back walks to Jayda Murray and Marina Johnson, Danica Gates singled to score a run.

Hailey Metz followed with a two-run double before Ana Shutts brought in another run with a single.

All told the Warriors sent 10 batters to the plate in the second as their lead expanded to 7-0.

Peyton Metz held the Eagles scoreless again in the second inning before Warren exploded for 12 runs to blow things wide open in the top of the third.

Among the key hits in the third for the Warriors was a two-run single by Shutts and an RBI-double by Johnson.

Gracie Adams came into pitch in the bottom of the third and allowed Belpre to score their lone run of the game when Madi Lauer reached on an error, moved to second on an Addy Stewart hit and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ruble.

Adams settled down after surrendering the unearned run in the third and was outstanding the rest of the way striking out 7 in her three innings of work.

Wells was quite pleased with the performance in the circle by both of her pitchers.

“We’ve been battling some injuries and it was good to get them some work trying to get them back to 100 percent,” said Wells. “We have a really good variety of pitchers and both of them were very good tonight.”

Warren pounded out 12 hits in the game, including two each by Shutts, Adams, Johnson and Danica Gates.

Every single Warren batter reached base as the Warriors improved their record to 6-4 with the win.

Warren did make a couple of miscues in the field, but Wells likes the way her team is playing defensively as a whole.

“Our defense has really been working well together and played solid all year long,” said Wells. “This is one of the strongest groups I have had defensively.”

The loss was the ninth in a row to start the season for Belpre, which got a pair of base hits off the bat of Stewart while Brookover and Julia Way accounted for the other two base hits.

Warren will return to action Saturday with a double-header at Caldwell while the Eagles get a bit of a break to catch their breath before hosting Eastern on Tuesday night.
