VINCENT — The return of the Warren Warrior Invitational netted spectacular results for the royal blue and white boys and girls track teams Saturday.

The Warren boys bested runner-up Morgan 157-107.5, while the WHS girls ran away from second place Federal Hocking 166-79.

Strong winds made their presence felt throughout the meet, and an afternoon rainstorm forced the cancellation of the 4×4 relay race, but overall the meet was a success.

“We haven’t had our home invite for a couple years,” said Warren head coach Tony Zaleski. “Last year we tried, but there were scheduling issues and we weren’t able to have it. We got to see some different competition like Philo, Cambridge, Morgan — those are solid schools. It was nice to have it this year.”

Sophomore Juliana Huffman claimed high-point honors for the Warren girls, winning the long jump at 16 feet, 5 inches. Huffman also anchored the winning 4×2 team (1 minute, 51.50 seconds) along with Emma Parker, Rania Singh and Sydney Starcher. She placed runner-up in the 300 hurdles (52.73) behind winning teammate Abby Whited (49.74) and was third in the 100 (13.28).

In the relays, the Warren girls also won the 4×8 thanks to Hollyn Reed, Ashlee Pate, Camryn Edgell and Adi Greenup (10:38.87).

Pate (5:55.51) and Reed (5:59.47) finished 1-2 in the 1600 while Reed was also runner-up in the 800 (2:38.40). Singh placed second in the 400 (1:05.16) while Whited finished runner-up in the 100 hurdles (17.23). Adi Greenup was a second-place finisher in the 3200 (13:16.76) while Starcher reached 5-4 in the high jump to place second.

Fort Frye’s Reiley Miller set a school record in the discus with a mark of 112-6. Waterford’s Ella Schweikert was runner-up in the shot put (32-9) while fellow Wildcat Emma Schaad finished third in the 100 hurdles (18.57) and high jump (5-0).

Federal Hocking’s Annamarie Montle captured gold in the pole vault after eclipsing 12 feet. Other winners for the runner-up Lancers were Denise Stokes (200; 27.58) and Elsie Amlin (3200; 13:05.92).

Morgan’s Ava Davis won the 400 (1:03.76).

Cambridge, which placed third as a team, saw Jaylee Theodosopoulus finish first in the 100 (12.94) and Grace Dempsey win the shot out (34-1)

Alexander’s lone win came in the 800 thanks to Meena Juedes (2:37.64) while New Lex got a first-place finish in the high jump from Ava Snedeker, who cleared 5-4 and defeated Starcher via tiebreaker.

Philo’s Aubree Delong won the 100 hurdles (16.01) and joined Alivia Schoonover, Tawny Gottke, Halli Harris on the winning 4×1 team (53.08).

On the boys side, Warren won nine total events. Luke Rettenberger was the only individual double-winner, placing first in the mile (4:34.25) and two-mile (10:28.77). The Warriors also had runner-up finishes in each of those events — Spencer Rehl in the 1600 (4:35.87) and Alex Bishop in the 3200 (10:47.49).

Warren swept the three relay events. Eric Carr anchored the winning 4×1 and 4×2 teams. He joined Deacon Lambert, Davin Dickel and Mason Werry in the 4×1 (44.81) with Emrick Lizon replacing Werry in the 4×2 (1:34.22). Lizon was also third in the 400 (54.17) while Craig Bennett nabbed the same placement in the shot put (42-9).

“Early on in the year, we like to experiment a lot,” Zaleski said. “We move kids around. One thing we always lean on is how many kids can run a good 400. We have the ability to move those kids around, in and out of relays, stuff like that. Anybody can have a good day. We want everybody to contribute when we need them.”

Rettenberger anchored the 4×8 team (9:08.92), which also included Kyle Anthony, Rehl and Clay Perry.

Perry (400; 50.49) and Anthony (800; 2:05.65) each had individual wins of their own. Werry captured the 300 hurdles title (41.15) and was second in the 110 (15.62), while Jaxon Venham made top of the podium in the pole vault (12-6). Carr was runner-up in the long jump (21-5.5).

Morgan’s Braylon Miller won the 200 (22.50) and finished second in the 100 (11.63) behind Meigs’ Griffin Hudson (11.58). Fellow Raider James Thomas Jr. was the discus champion (140-11) and was runner-up in the shot (44-4). Braden Massey claimed a runner-up finish for Morgan in the pole vault (12-0) while Jaxon Pauley was third in the long jump (20-11)

Alexander’s Jake Roush nipped Werry in the 110 hurdles (15.51) while fellow Spartan Nathaniel Graves won the shot put (47-7).

Philo’s Aidan Mahon, who claimed high-point honors on the boys side, won the high jump (6-5) and long jump (22-10) and was second in the 200 (22.84).

Fort Frye’s Tytan Waller finished second in the 400 (50.96) while Xavier Huck was fourth in the pole vault (10-6). Waterford’s Ryder Wolfe was third in both the 110 hurdles (16.46) and 300 hurdles (43.98). Fellow Wildcat Gavin Offenberger was third in the 1600 (4:40.95).

Federal Hocking’s Dillon Haynes (6-0) and Gabe Bray (5-10) finished second and third, respectively, in the high jump.

“In a lot of the sprint events, they were running straight into a head wind,” Zaleski pointed out. “I think our kids knew it wasn’t going to be a day with some crazy times, but some of the longer events, the mile, two-mile, were able to use the back stretch as a nice push.”

Warren is proving to be a tough team to match up with when it comes to winning meets.

“All of our big invites, we’ve came away on top,” Zaleski said. “We’ve seen a lot of different teams. One of our big meets we always plan ahead for is the OVAC, which is in a couple of weeks. Especially since there’s not more Twin State League, we’re really focused on that. I think we’re in a good spot.

“Today was our senior day, and it was nice to get all of them recognized. Not every team gets to do that in a big meet with a lot of schools. It’s nice to get them recognized in front of a crowd. They deserve it.”
