4 Pioneers named to All-OAC softball team
WESTERVILLE — Four Marietta College Pioneers earned a spot on the 2026 All-Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Team announced Tuesday morning by the league office.
Liz White and Katie Sweeney were named to the first team in a vote conducted by the OAC softball coaches. The Pioneers also placed Adisson Heath on the second team and Aiyana Hancock earned honorable mention recognition.
“I am very proud of the recognition our players have earned from our league,” said Marietta head softball coach Jenn Castle. “Each player was impactful for our team this year.”
This was the third consecutive post-season honor for White, and second-straight as a member of the first team. She was fifth in the conference with 55 hits, 36 runs batted in, and a .451 batting average. She proved to be a very tough batter to get out as she led the conference with 30 walks and was second with a .571 on base percentage. White put together a .972 fielding percentage at first base, a position she had seldom played in the past.
“Liz had another productive year,” said Coach Castle. “She was a consistent hitter for us at the top of the line-up.”
Sweeney replaced White as catcher this season and proved to be valuable in her first season as a full-time starter. She was third in the OAC with 16 doubles and was tied for second on the team with four home runs. Sweeney played well defensively as she was second in the OAC with eight runners caught stealing.
“Katie really stepped up this season,” said Coach Castle. “She had one of the hottest bats throughout OAC play.”
Heath once again spent much of the year as the designated player for the Pioneers and received her second OAC postseason honor. Heath was third on the team with 39 hits and 28 runs batted in and was in a tie for second with four home runs.
“Adi proved again to be a clutch hitter for the team,” said Coach Castle. “With the power she provides, she has found a home in the middle of our lineup.”
Hancock put together a strong season for the Pioneers and led the team with 19 starts and 100.2 innings pitched, both good for third in the conference. She was fourth in the conference with 75 strikeouts and was eighth with an opponent batting average of .286, on the way to six hard fought victories on the season.
“Aiyana took on a big role for us this season in the pitching circle,” said Coach Castle. “She put us in a position to be competitive in the OAC and kept us in a lot of games.”
Marietta finished the season with a 21-19 overall record and 6-10 Ohio Athletic Conference record.
