SPENCER — The Doddridge County boys left little doubt, while Williamstown emerged from a balanced girls field to capture track and field championships during Friday’s Little Kanawha Conference Meet at Roane County High School.

On the boys side, Doddridge County won eight of a possible 18 events and produced additional high placers while scoring 194 points. Williamstown followed as runner-up with 92 points, while Wahama took third with 80 points.

Anchoring the Bulldogs’ depth were Tommy Walters-Hickman and Jerod Trent, who were both double-winners. Walters-Hickman won the long jump (21-9.5) and 100 (11.06), while Trent won gold in the 400 (50.85) and 200 (22.94). Teammate Brycen Eidel posted a PR while winning the 300 hurdles (40.68), while Tristan Swiger followed suit in the pole vault (14-0) — an event where the Bulldogs had three individuals place in the top four.

Rounding out the parade of champs for DCHS were Nathanael Lloyd in the high jump (6-0) and the 4×100 relay of Swiger, Will Adams, Landon Thomas and Jacob Riffle posting a first-place time of 45.08.

On the girls side, it was anybody’s guess through eight events as eight different schools were represented in the winner’s circle. Williamstown began piling up the points with wins with Cassie Sites in the 3200 (12:39.34), Reagan Corbett in the discus (128-2) and the 4×200 relay of Aleena Johnson, Addison Richardson, Luci Collins and Maggie Johnson combining for a time of 1:51.24.

Perhaps the most scintillating performance turned in by a Yellowjacket occurred at the pole vault pit where Grace Boone posted a meet record height of 11 feet, 3 inches — surpassing the old mark set in 2016 by a former Williamstown track member Ellie Gardner.

Starting at 9-0, Boone made her way to 11-3 by clearing the bar without a miss. She then cleared 11-3 on her third and final attempt. Her previous PR was 10-6.

That set the tone for what was to come shortly after on the track and two more conference marks went by the wayside. DCHS’ 4×100 of Brooke DeHaven, Seanna Ahouse, Jaycee Lipscomb and Payton Trent turned in a winning time of 51.34, which eclipsed a mark of 51.44 set by Williamstown 26 years ago.

The energy on the track continued in the next running event as St. Marys junior Anna Bennett completed the 800 in a time of 2:18.37. Williamstown’s Alyssa Sauro owned the old mark of 2:18.53, which was established in 2022.

Both Doddridge County and St. Marys earned three first-place finishes, but Williamstown wrapped up the girls title by placing fourth in the next-to-the-last event of the night — the shuttle hurdle relay — and finished the meet with 137 points. DCHS took runner-up with 105 points, while St. Marys took third at 98.5 points.

Josie Cox swept the two hurdle events — the 100 and 300 — as Roane County finished in fourth place with 61 points.

The LKC field consisted of 18 schools. The lone individual triple-winner for the event was Tyler Consolidated senior Amos Kimble, who swept the two-mile, mile and the 800.

Area winners on the boys side included Williamstown’s 4×800 of Chase Pickering, Gavin Wilburn, Vincent Zegrea and Jimmy Erlandson), St. Marys’ 4×200 of Xxavier Cunningham, Eli Cox, Noah Russell and Tristan) and the Blue Devils’ 4×400 of Bryce Bills, Desmond Parks, Noah Russell and Max Dauch, along with Williamstown’s Christian Hoosier in the discus.

Among the winners in the girls field, St. Marys’ Laney Watkins in the 100 and Bennett in the 1600. Doddridge’s first-place representation also included Payton Trent in the long jump and the 200. Tyler Consolidated’s Kathyn Grimm won the high jump.
