BELPRE — Sunny weather and temperatures in the low 50s greeted Saturday’s participants at the Chick-fil-A Holdren Elite Invitational here at Belpre High School as the Waterford boys and Federal Hocking were crowned team champions.
Lancer Annamarie Montle had wins in the 100 (15.32) and 300 (47.19) hurdles, which saw Eastern’s Sadi Haught finish runner-up in each. The senior also won the pole vault by clearing 12 feet, 2 inches en route to earning high-point honors (30).
Federal Hocking’s Gabe Bray was the high-point winner for the boys after amassing 26 on the strength of victories in the high jump (6-0) and the long jump (19-5). Bray was fourth in the pole (9-6) behind the trio of champion Elliot Kraince of Athens, runner-up Liam Roberts of Alexander and Fort Frye’s Xavier Huck, all of whom cleared 10 feet, 6 inches.
The FHHS boys had 69 points, three more than fifth-place Alexander, as the Wildcats finished with 100 to also top Shenandoah (75) and New Lexington (71).
Waterford was led to victory by a trio of first-place efforts. Gavin Offenberger claimed the 1600 after besting Caldwell’s Zane Boyd, 4:39.81 to 4:43.25. Colby Roberts topped the field in the shot put with a 47-1.5 effort as Alexander’s Nathaniel Graves (44-4) and Belpre’s Nathan Tippie (40-7) followed. Aaron Schaad threw 127 feet to win the discus for the Wildcats as Zep Lane Williams’ effort of 121 feet, 10 inches was good for second.

Federal Hocking’s girls, who had 106 with Shenandoah (93), New Lexington (75), Eastern (45) and Alexander (44) rounding out the top five team scores, also had an individual top of the podium finish in the 400 thanks to Ellie Needs’ 1:02.12.
Belpre’s top effort for the girls belonged to Shy Miller, who ran a 2:39.65 in the 800 to finish third behind Zep Alyssa Crum (2:25.15) and Spartan Meena Juedes (2:33.02). Miller was fifth in the 1600, which was won by Zep Ida Estadt (5:22.08).
In the 3200, Belpre received a fourth-place showing from Harper Rogers as Athens’ Julia Borovicka won it with a time of 13:37.46.
Waterford’s Ella Schweikert won the shot put by 6 inches over Caldwell’s Camy Crock after the Wildcat had a top effort of 33 feet and 1 inch. Eastern’s Brooklyn Barkey topped Cadet Reiley Miller to win the discus (118-3 to 113-5) as Crock’s 110 feet, 4 inch throw was good for third.
Caldwell’s Aleah Speck held off New Lexington’s Kayla Schneider to win the 200 – 28.78 to 28.83, while Zep Brenna Leach’s time of 13.08 in the 100 topped Federal Hocking runner-up Denise Stokes’ 13.43.

NLHS also had victories thanks to Ava Snedeker clearing 5 feet, 2 inches in the high jump to top the 4-10 of Waterford’s Emma Schaad along with Elizabeth Cook’s long jump of 14-1.75 that bested Shayla Holcomb’s 13-7.75 effort for FHHS.
Bray was joined as a double-winner by Fort Frye’s Tytan Waller and Alexander’s Jake Roush, who won both hurdles events (110H, 15.48; 300H, 42.72). Waller ran a 51.29 to beat Belpre’s Brayden McDaniel’s 53.84 in the 400. In the 200, Waller kicked his way to a 23.08 to just edge Lancer Braeden Hill’s 23.15. Hill did win the 100 after finishing ahead of New Lexington’s Cohen Martin-Young (11.72 to 11.84).
Although Boyd came up short to Offenberger in the 1600, the Redskin posted a victorious effort of 10:50.53 in the 3200 to top teammate Marcus Rohrbaugh. Belpre’s Paxton Hudnall-Bolian finished in 12:00.45 to take fourth.
