Easton Miller’s eighth-inning line drive hit off the back of the infield umpire and rolled into center field to plate the go-ahead run in Parkersburg Post 15’s 7-6 win over Marietta Post 64 Friday at Pioneer Park.

Post 15 (5-3) trailed 3-1 after three and 5-2 after five, but put up a three-spot in the sixth to force extras and plated a pair in the eighth to claim the victory.

Cam Cumpston, who scored three runs in the game, led off the eighth with a single and later scored on Miller’s base knock. Nic Akers, who started the game on the mound, tacked on an important insurance run with an RBI single to make it 7-5.

Post 64 (6-5) didn’t go quietly in the home half of the eighth. AJ Copen’s RBI single made it a one-run game. With the tying run and third and two outs, Seth Menarchek got Tate Jonas to fly out to right field to end the game.

Miller, CJ McCartney, Wyatt Boice and Peyton West had two hits apiece for Parkersburg, which got 5 2/3 innings from Akers on the bump. Akers walked five and struck out seven. Menarchek dealt the final 2 1/3 innings, fanning three and walking one to earn the win.

Casey Burkhammer entered to begin the sixth and pitched the final three innings for Marietta, walking four and striking out seven in the loss. Jonas started and went five innings, earning a no-decision. He walked four and punched out five.

Jacob Sealey and Bo Jonas had two hits apiece to lead Post 64. Sealey’s two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth gave skipper Chad Porter’s squad a 5-2 lead.

With nobody on in the top of the sixth, McCartney sparked a two-out rally with a walk. He stole second and scored on Boice’s single to make it 5-3. A hit batter and a walk loaded the bases, and West’s base-on-balls brought in another run to make it 5-4. Parkersburg knotted it up at 5-all when Cumpston came home on a wild pitch.

An error in the third led to an unearned run and a 1-0 lead for Parkersburg as West cashed in with an RBI single to right.

Marietta rallied the next half-inning, though. Logan Fling’s bases-loaded walk tied it up, and Post 64 went on top when Ben Raines scored on a wild pitch. Jayce Hilverding’s squeeze bunt brought in another run to make it 3-1.

Cumpston got a run back for Mike Goodwin’s club in the fifth via an RBI groundout, cutting it to 3-2.

Marietta third baseman Logan Fling had a web gem in the top of the seventh when Menarchek hit a popup in foul ground. Fling made a sliding, over-the-shoulder basket catch up against the fence for the second out of the inning.

Then, Post 64 nearly walked it off in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and Bo Jonas at second, Raines hit a sharp line drive to shallow center field. However, Boice was playing in and was able to make the catch and fire to second for a double play, allowing Post 15 to notch the winning runs in extras.
