Frontier 50, Bridgeport 14
ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- Luke Mendenhall's goal line interception, which he returns 99 yards to the house, set the tone for Frontier's season-opening 50-14 win over Bridgeport Thursday.
Due to flooding at Bridgeport, the game was moved to St. Clairsville and didn't kick off until after 9 p.m. due to a previously scheduled soccer match.
Once the game did finally start, Mendenhall proved to be a thorn in the Bulldogs' side all night.
After the 99-yard pick-six, Mendenhall added a pair of rushing touchdowns and finished with 72 yards on 16 carries. He also was 4 for 7 passing for 43 yards.
Austyn Kephart powered the Cougars' rushing attack, going for 131 yards and two TDs on 14 totes. Davyn Ferrell and Cooper Schmidt both ran for touchdowns in the fourth quarter and the Frontier defense had a safety to round out the scoring for the Cougars.
A pair of touchdown strikes from Hayden Kinsley to Michael Shaw provided Bridgeport's points. Kinsley finished 16 for 26 passing for 226 yards while Shaw caught four balls for 82 yards.
