Two Washington County golfers have punched their ticket to the state tournament, while several others will be competing for their tickets on Wednesday in district tournament action.
On Monday in the girls Division I East District Tournament at Crystal Springs, Warren's Maggie Evans turned in a score of 74 to win the individual district championship and earn a spot at the NCR Country Club North Course on Oct. 12.
Meanwhile at the EagleSticks on the same day, Fort Frye's Tanner Archer finished fourth at the boys D2 East District Tournament. Archer carded a 72 to earn his spot at state.
Archer and Evans may not be the only representatives from their respective schools at state, as the Fort Frye girls and Warren boys both will be in action Wednesday, with the Cadets playing at Cambridge Country Club and the Warriors competing at EagleSticks.
The Fort Frye girls were the runners-up in the team standings at their sectional tournament last week at Jaycees.
Raeleigh Warden led the Cadets with a third-place finish (78), followed by Khoen Courson in fifth (88), Kallie Boley in ninth (101), Kenna McCurdy in 10th (103) and Abigail Huck in 16th (115).
The Warren boys were fourth at the D1 sectional at Crown Hill last week. Jackson Perdue placed fifth (78), Aiden Lipscomb was ninth (80), Cody Eding was 13th (81), Curtis Reynolds was 38th (92) and Aiden Harlow was 47th (99).
The Marietta boys won the sectional title, led by Anthony Discini's third-place finish (77). Keaton Mace was 13th (81) and Blake Lauer was 17th (83), while Colsen Lang and Torin Baker were tied for 19th (85).
The Tigers will join the Warriors at EagleSticks for the district tournament.
Also competing on Wednesday will be the Waterford boys, who won the D3 sectional championship at Jaycees last week. Reese Lang was the individual medalist with a score of 73. His teammates helped fill out the remainder of the top four, with Brock Hurley in second (74), Luke Hvizdzak in third (77) and Wade Starkey in fourth (82). Henry Huffman joined his teammates in the top 10, tying for seventh place (86).
The Wildcats are competing at districts at Elks Country Club where they will be going for their second straight state tournament berth.
The Marietta girls team, which won a sectional title last week, competed at the Crystal Springs district alongside Warren. Jillian Elliott placed third at 81, Madilyn D'Ettore was fifth at 86 and Kenadee Strauss came in 11th at 92, but Marietta finished eight strokes behind district champion Minerva to place runner-up, just missing out on a state tournament berth.
Marietta girls golf coach Sam Bruni nailed it last week when he said, "The golfers in our area are absolutely killing it. I'm really happy with where golf is in Washington County right now."
