Tiger tennis advances 7 to district tennis tourney

LOGAN -- Competing in the Division II Southeast District Sectional Tournament at Logan High School, all seven Marietta High varsity tennis players advanced to the district tourney.
Olivia Vessels took home the sectional singles championship while Maya Diki and Audrey Goeller captured the doubles title.
Vessels actually faced off against teammate Soren Soderlund in the championship match, winning 6-2 and 6-0 as Soderlund finished runner-up. That was after Vessels defeated fellow Tiger Lily Marshall in the semifinals, 6-2 and 6-1. Marshall later fell in the third place match to Washington Court House's Cambry Brown to place fourth.
Finally, the duo of Jaida Perez and Theda Tofoute placed third in doubles, falling to Goeller and Diki in an all-Marietta semifinal match (6-3, 2-6, 6-4) before coming out victorious in the third-place match.
All top-four finishers in the tournament advanced to districts along with the top four from the Portsmouth sectional. The district tournament will be held Monday, Oct. 5 in Athens, with the singles and doubles champions advancing to the state tournament in Cincinnati.
