The Marietta Tiger Navy will be on familiar water this upcoming holiday weekend.

After qualifying at May 11’s Midwest Scholastic Rowing Association (MSRA) Regatta at Dillon State Park in Nashport, the MHS girls junior double and lightweight varsity double are scheduled to race this Friday and Saturday in the SRAA National Championship Regatta at the same venue.

The junior double will feature Ahni Georgerian and Lily Ditchendorf, while the lightweight eight includes Ashley Stewart and Carli Robertson.

Last year, the championships were on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. There, the girls lightweight eight finished sixth.

Tuning up for this weekend’s competition, the Tiger Navy completed regular-season rowing on a high note at this past Saturday’s 40th Mercyhurst Prep Regatta on Lake Erie at Presque Isle in Erie, Pa.

“Building winds and fishing boat wakes added to the rough water that eventually led to shortening the final few races and cancelling the 500 meter dashes with the water becoming white capped and unrowable by the close of the regatta,” said Marietta Tiger Navy coach Joe Tewkesbury.

Even with the less than ideal rowing conditions, Marietta’s girls claimed gold medals in the varsity double, novice eight, and varsity lightweight four. They also earned silver in the junior eight, lightweight varsity double, and varsity eight.

The junior four advanced to the finals with a runner-up in the heats, “but was swamped by a boat wake before the start and rowed to a fifth place finish while carrying the weight of gallons of water down the course,” Tewkesbury said.

“Every member of the girls crew came home with a medal,” Tewkesbury said.

The Marietta double scull featured Geogerian and Ditchendorf; the novice eight, Kayla Stewart, Bri Heslop, Gabby Grabow, Hailey Shearon, Lexi Ruble, Esther Starner, Lauren Clark, Sydney Gammon, and Grace Brookover; the lightweight four, Ashley Stewart, Reagan Loeber, Lauren Clark, Marie Rauch, Seneca Craven; the junior eight: Katie Morrison, Gabby Grabow, Emily Bichard, Kya Lindsey, Lexi Ruble, Isabella Freimann, Hailey Shearon, Sydney Gammon, and Ashleigh Rosen; the lightweight double: Robertson and Ashley Stewart; junior four, Morrison, Lindsey, Ruble, and Freimann, Brookover; and varsity eight, Robertson, Ditchendorf, Geogerian, Starner, Ashley Stewart, Loeber, Clark, Rauch, and Craven.

At the Mercyhurst regatta, the Kindra Hecker-coached MHS boys crews won the junior four, varsity four, and novice four as well as claiming silver medals in the junior double and junior eight and bronze in the varsity double.

The Tiger Navy boys roster included Austin Harrow, Nathan Danku, Hayden Reed, Peter Thomas, Jeb Veloso, Chris Ritchie, Kyle Keller, Austin Offenberger, Jack Snars, Owen Zundell, Andrew Sands, Jack Wesel, Skylar Farrell, Devin Potter, Marion Maxon, and Gabe Villarruetta.
