Frontier High School Alumni Association for the classes 1969-1990 held its 11th annual class reunion on June 2 and 3. Both nights the festivities were held in the Jr. Fair Building at the Marietta Fairgrounds. Friday evening, approximately 100 classmates and/or guests started arriving at the building to register and get name tags around 6 p.m. The evening offered guests a D.J. who played music from the 70s and 80s. Rick Nicholson of Triple “R” Musicworks provided music for the evening. A cash bar, light snacks, soda and water were provided for the guests.

Saturday evening brought approximately 115 alumni and guests. Around 7 p.m. classmates proceeded to gather for a professional portrait taken by Mark Stewart of Stewart Photography. Anyone still interested in purchasing an 8×10 group photo can still do so for a $15 charge which includes postage. If interested, contact Jeff at 740-374-4026.

Gary Hewitt, class of 1970, gave the blessing before the buffet-style dinner began, staffed by Quinet’s of New Martinsville. Dessert was created and decorated by Dawn Walls Gutberlet, class of 1988. Two specialty cakes also made it to the dessert table — a HoHo cake and a Peanut Butter Cake. Door prizes, donated by area merchants and alumni, were awarded throughout the evening.

Throughout the weekend the alumni browsed through picture albums, scrap books, year books and the memorabilia table. A memory table was dedicated to the classmates from 1969-1990. The display was to honor the deceased classmates. Their senior pictures were placed in a photo album and arranged according to their year of graduation. A single candle was also lit in their memory. Adorning the table was a floral arrangement with 6 yellow roses, donated by Oopsa Daisy Florist in Newport. A live auction was held with Jeff Beaver, class of 1976 and president of the association, as the auctioneer.

Beaver spoke about some of the events that have occurred throughout the year. In the fall of 2022, many of the alumni worked the concession stand at the FHS homecoming football game. Parents that normally work the concession stand were able to watch the homecoming festivities and the football game. The alumni plan to work concessions during the 2023 homecoming game as well.

On May 6, the alumni held their 11th annual golf scramble at the St. Marys Golf Course. The scramble is always a day of fun for golfers and those helping with the outing. More information on next year’s event will be announced soon.

On May 21, during the FHS senior awards ceremony, two seniors from FHS were each awarded a $500 alumni scholarship. Committee members help fund the scholarships and special projects at the school.

The FHS Alumni Association 1969-1990 aims to hold its 12th annual class reunion on the traditional second weekend in June of 2024.
