NFL Roundup: Bears’ Bagent has concussion
Trending
CHICAGO (AP) -- Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent has been placed in the NFL concussion protocol, according to a person familiar with the situation, adding another wrinkle to the team’s plans for Monday night’s game against Philadelphia.
The person confirmed Bagent’s status to The Associated Press on Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the Bears hadn’t released their first injury report of the week.
Bagent was expected to take most of the first-team reps in practice after Caleb Williams left Sunday’s 9-3 loss to Minnesota with a right hamstring injury. Coach Ben Johnson said Williams is “week to week,” and he left open the possibility that the No. 1 pick in the 2024 draft could play against the Eagles.
If Williams and Bagent are unable to play Monday night, the Bears likely would turn to Case Keenum. The 38-year-old Keenum has 66 career starts, but he hasn’t thrown a pass in a regular-season game since Dec. 24, 2023, for Houston against Cleveland.
Bagent was 5 for 9 for 54 yards against the Vikings. He was sacked by Dallas Turner on the final play of the game.
Bagent, 26, had a record-setting career at Division II Shepherd University before signing with the Bears in May 2023 as an undrafted free agent.
He made four starts while appearing in five games as rookie, passing for 859 yards and three touchdowns with six interceptions. He signed a two-year contract extension in August 2025.
Dart’s knee injury still being evaluated
Jaxson Dart’s injured left knee is being evaluated and no decisions have been made, New York Giants coach John Harbaugh said Tuesday in the aftermath of the starting quarterback exiting the game at the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night.
Harbaugh refused to confirm reports that Dart’s injury is worse than the initial diagnosis of a sprained medial collateral ligament, leading to an extended absence and possibly season-ending surgery. After the 28-6 loss, Harbaugh said it was “in the neighborhood” and that an MRI would lead to more information.
“It’s an ongoing conversation about the health of a player, of a person,” Harbaugh said on a video call with reporters. “We’ve got to prepare for the range of possibilities.”
Harbaugh said the team would reveal details and a timeframe in due time after the evaluation is complete. He expressed confidence in backup Jameis Winston’s ability to step in for however long Dart is out.
Jets sign QB Levis to practice squad
The New York Jets signed former Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis, a second-round draft pick in 2023, to their practice squad Tuesday, a person familiar with the move told The Associated Press.
The Jets released quarterback Bailey Zappe from the practice squad to make room for Levis, the person told the AP on condition of anonymity because the team hadn’t announced the signing.
The 27-year-old Levis worked out for the Jets earlier this month. He was released by the Titans last month as part of their final roster cuts.
New York has starter Geno Smith and rookie Cade Kubnik, a fourth-rounder, on its active roster, so Levis would be the third-string quarterback and inactive on game day unless he’s promoted from the practice squad.
Levis, who missed all of last season after having shoulder surgery, said in August he thought he was still capable of being a starting quarterback in the NFL.
“There are not 32 quarterbacks in this league better than me,” Levis said. “I know that for sure.”
