100 Women Who Care in the MOV donates to Jon Six Food Ministry

PARKERSBURG -- The 100 Women Who Care in the MOV, a group dedicated to bettering the Mid-Ohio Valley, held its spring meeting on April 20 at the Parkersburg Art Center.
At each meeting, attendees each donate $100 and listen to three local non-profit organizations speak about their organization and what they would do if they were selected to receive the group's collective quarterly donation. At the conclusion of the presentations, attendees vote for their top choice and all funds are directly donated to the winning non-profit.
Presentations were made by Memorial Health Foundation, Williamstown Food Pantry and Jon Six Food Ministry. The group raised $6,200 the night of the event with additional money donated in the days following.
Jon Six Food Ministry was awarded $7,100. Jon Six Food Ministry serves free meals to as many 350 homeless and hungry in Parkersburg every Sunday afternoon.
The group, founded by Jessica Huffman and board of directors Danielle Allphin, Angie Reich and Megan Thieman in 2021, has raised nearly $38,000 over seven one-hour meetings.
"Not only do we come together as local women to infuse funds directly to these deserving non-profit organizations to benefit the Mid-Ohio Valley and keep our hard-earned money here where we live, but we also bring important awareness to the essential work they do behind the scenes," Huffman said. "Many of our members, including myself, have been lifelong residents in the area and are learning eye-opening things about the community that we didn't know. This has led to secondary donations being given by members directly to the organizations and volunteer commitments, which is priceless for these groups."
The spring quarterly meeting was sponsored by Dr. Paula Galupo with swag bags donated by Hall Financial, Patterson Farms, Wildroot Flower and Tranquil Intentions Wellness Center. Several giveaway prizes were donated by JustAJar Design Press, Donna Spader, Marietta Main Street and Hall Financial.
The next 100 Women Who Care in the MOV meeting will be held beginning with a social hour from 5-6 p.m. July 20. A business meeting will be held 6-7 p.m.
