‘Maximize Your Social Security’ powerpoint will be offered twice

Would you be surprised to know there are 567 ways to file for Social Security? Baby Boomers could be leaving thousands of dollars on the table without realizing it. While the vast majority of people expect to receive advice from the Social Security Administration on how to maximize their benefits, little do they realize that the SSA actually prohibits its representatives from dispensing advice. They are not trained to advise neither are they permitted to do so.

“Maximizing Your Social Security” will discuss: When to take your benefit; Will the SSA run out of money?; The break-even point if you file at 62; Can I continue to work and draw benefits?; Ex-spouse benefits; Longevity and Inflation risk; The 3-Legged Stool and more.

While most Boomers are very familiar with climbing the mountain to retirement and the specific tools required to get there (accumulation), few realize that descending the mountain (distribution) requires a whole different set of tools. When preparing to climb a mountain, climbers work hard to gather the tools and supplies needed to reach the top of the mountain, with little thought to the descent. A little known fact: the vast majority of mountain climbers perish descending the mountain because they gave little thought to the tools needed for coming back down.

The pinnacle of the mountain is the date you retire. Social Security is a major tool in descending the mountain of retirement.

Perishing in retirement is running out of money early or not having ample monthly income as you live longer (longevity risk) and inflation eats away at your savings and SSA Benefits.

“Maximize Your Social Security” will be offered on two different occasions: Tuesday evening, Feb. 28 and Thursday evening, March 2, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., at Washington State Community College in the Community Room. Cathie Canary, owner of CanaryCo, will be giving the powerpoint presentations. To register, email your name and date you wish to attend to: ccanary17@gmail.com by Sunday, Feb. 26. A representative from CanaryCo will reply with further information and confirmation.

A sign-up list will be available at the end of the seminar for those wanting a free, detail-oriented, personalized report that includes both working histories for couples.
