Kroger opens pharmacy at MMH

Memorial Health System welcomed a Kroger Pharmacy onto its Marietta campus earlier this month and health system officials say the partnership has been beneficial to both the hospital and the community so far.
"The Kroger Pharmacy partnership benefits both Memorial Health System's nearly 3,000 employees and also patients and families in the hospital that can easily stop and fill their prescription after a doctor's appointment," said Jennifer Offenberger, director of marketing and public relations. "People are really excited because it's a convenience for everyone having this pharmacy in the hospital."
The opening date was May 10 and after three weeks in business, both Offenberger and Mike King, pharmacy coordinator for Kroger's Mid-Atlantic Division, say operations have gone smoothly.
"We've been having really good feedback from everyone," said King. "This offers such a convenience because now people needing prescriptions don't have to travel clear across town to get them. They could even go to any Kroger Pharmacy location including the one on Acme Street, Belpre and Parkersburg."
According to King, this project took about 18 months to complete. He reached out to Memorial Health System's CEO Scott Cantley directly and asked if adding a Kroger Pharmacy to the hospital would be something he'd be interested in.
"Late 2015 is when I reached out to him and I believe we had our first meeting about the project in January of 2016," said King. "This is the first pharmacy in the Mid-Atlantic Division like this."
The benefits of using a Kroger Pharmacy can be taken further than just at Memorial Health System, according to King.
"If I were an employee or patient of Marietta Memorial Hospital and was visiting Myrtle Beach but forgot my prescription, it would be very difficult to find a pharmacy that would fill a new prescription," said King. "Using a Kroger Pharmacy allows information about particular patients to be sent to other Kroger pharmacies if this situation ever occurred."
The new pharmacy is located on the first floor of Marietta Memorial Hospital near the elevators. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
"This partnership benefits us with added business but I think it does the same for the Memorial Health System," said King. "I'm excited what the future holds working together on this."
