¯ On Jan. 22, an officer was advised of possible child abuse that occurred at a hotel in Marietta. The 2-year-old had been taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital where it was learned his leg was broken. The child was then sent to Children’s Hospital in Columbus. The investigation is ongoing.

¯ An officer was advised on Jan. 23 of a misuse of credit card complaint that had occurred at Walmart, 804 Pike St. The account was closed.

¯ An officer attempted a traffic stop on Jan. 23. The vehicle pulled into the Burger King parking lot and the driver went inside. The plates on the vehicle were ficticious. The passenger, Eric S. Valentine, of 1005 Cornerville Road, Reno, said he didn’t know who the driver was or if the person was male or female. The driver was determined to be Sunshine L. Chapa, of 136 Franklin St. She was issued a citation for driving under suspension, ficticious registration and expired registration. Valentine was arrested for obstruction of official business.

¯ Brian R. Ritchie, of 101 Theis Ave., Lot 9, reported Jan. 24 that someone had entered a small building attached to his trailer and stolen a weedeater and tools.

¯On Jan. 24, an officer was dispatched to Speedway, 100 N. Seventh St., in reference to an employee theft. An employee was caught on video surveillance stealing about $309 worth of scratch off lottery tickets. Gina C. Mackinnon was arrested and charged with theft.

¯ An officer responded to Walmart, 804 Pike St., on Thursday for a shoplifting complaint. Rachel L. Frye, of 240 Hillcrest Drive, Apt. 6, was arrested for theft.

¯ Hi-Vac reported a theft and use of a gas credit card on Thursday.

¯ Walmart, 804 Pike St, reported a shoplifting on Thursday. Herbert C. Lawell III, of 1001 Greene St. B, was arrested for theft.

¯ On Thursday, officers were dispatched to a disturbance at the Red Roof Inn, 702 Pike St. Upon arrival, two intoxicated subjects were warned about their behavior. Officers were later dispatched for the same people again causing a disturbance. James C. Nelson, of 1109 Juliana St., 81, Parkersburg, and Kellie M. Hughes, of Bardstown, Ky., were arrested for disorderly conduct by intoxication.

¯ Officers responded to 507 Washington St. on Friday for a possible drug overdose/medical emergency. Jeffrey I. Cottrell was found unresponsive. As the fire department began to administer treatment, Joseph A. Castelli, of Pittsburgh, Pa., began interfering with squad personnel. He was instructed multiple times to leave the room but had to be forcefully removed. After receiving Narcan, Cottrell refused to go to the hospital and attempted to fight officers. Castelli was arrested and charged with obstructing official business and resisting arrest. Cottrell was arrested and later released to the Marietta Fire Department for transport to Marietta Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. He will be summonsed through Marietta Municipal Court to face charges of obstructing official business, resisting arrest and possesion of drug paraphernalia.

¯ On Saturday, an officer was dispatched to Marietta Memorial Hospital in regard to two people damaging a cellphone storage lock box. Security advised that two males came to the hospital and multiple times appeared to be attempting to gain entry to the lock box. When they were unsuccessful, they left the hospital. The box was damaged but the cellphone was still contained.

¯ Suzanne M. Tucker, of 804 Front St., reported a burglary in progress on Friday. Marcus Kimbrough, of 103 Woodcrest Lane, and Sunshine Chapa, of 136 Franklin St., were arrested after it was determined that Kimbrough had entered through a broken window and unlocked the residence for Chapa. The house had been involved in a task force raid the previous night and Kimbrough had been advised that he had to wait for the homeowner’s permission to pick up items he had left there.

¯ Nathan Reich, of 517 N. Fourth St., reported Friday that a woman stole a baby stroller from his front porch. The theft was captured on video recording.

¯ An officer responded to 801 ¢ Front St., on Friday in reference to a theft. Kenneth E. Wriston reported that a stereo and portable generator were stolen from his back porch. The case remains under investigation.

¯ On Saturday, officers responded to the Double L Saloon in reference to an underage intoxicated male. Jacob Butler, of 507 Front St., was found to be intoxicated under the age of 21. He was arrested and released on a personal recognizance bond to his mother.

¯ An officer responded to 416 George St. on Saturday. A father said while checking on his 17-year-old daughter he found she had left the residence around 1 a.m. without his knowledge. She returned home around 3:30 a.m.

¯ Officers were dispatched to the Double L Saloon, 112 Front St., in reference to an underage intoxicated male. James Davis, of 421 West Orchard Ave., Harrisville, W.Va., was arrested for underage consumption of alcohol and released on a personal recognizance bond to a sober party.

¯ Officers responded on Sunday to a report of an intoxicated driver in the 700 block of Pike Street. The driver struck another vehicle while entering Cogswell Lane. Kevin B. Gaid, of 209 County House Lane, Apt. A, was arrested for OVI and resisting arrest.

¯ An officer logged in an abandoned bike found at Tractor Supply on Monday.

¯ Walmart, 804 Pike St., reported a shoplifter in custody. Ares Matthew Nelson Harlan, of 1206 Swan St., Parkersburg, had stolen camping supplies. He confessed to the theft.

¯ Anna M. Vincent, reported the theft of a television at 212 Maple St.

Reports/Washington County

¯ On Friday, a deputy observed a male subject running across Ohio 7 in Marietta Township at the Hensler’s Market business. In the parking lot, a vehicle with two occupants was parked near the road. The occupants were identified as Jamie Barton and William Eckert III, and the subject observed running across the road was Jason Wolfe. In speaking with Barton and Eckert, the deputy learned they were picking Wolfe up. An active arrest warrant was on file for Wolfe. A search was done of Wolfe’s person at which time he admitted to having two syringes in his pocket, which were recovered. Barton consented to a vehicle search and found were two baggies with a positive indication for methamphetamine. Also found were four tablets found to be hydrocodone. Barton advised the purse and all contents were hers except for the methamphetamine. Barton further stated the hydrocodone tablets were hers and referred to them as Vicodin, stating she does have a prescription for the Vicodin, even though they were loose in a wallet when located.

Eckert provided a pink plastic baggie taken from his pocket, containing four tablets, which were also identified as hydrocodone. Eckert stated he did not have a prescription for the tablets.

William Eckert III, 40, of 812 Moore Ave., Belpre, was placed under arrest for possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.

Jamie A. Barton, 40, of 65 Oregon Drive, Parkersburg, was placed under arrest for possession of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony.

Jason Wolfe, 32, of 2366 Briggs Hill Road, Belpre, was placed under arrest for possession of drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor.

¯ A deputy began an investigation of a breaking and entering and damaging at the Veto Church of Christ on Jan. 22. This case remains under investigation.

¯ A deputy and the Reno Volunteer Fire Department responded to an unresponsive female subject on Jan. 24.

¯ On Jan. 24, a deputy conducted a traffic stop for an equipment violation on Ohio 7. The driver, Mitchell Louis Murphy, 23, of 35 Orchard Road, Newport, was found to be under license suspension and upon a search of the vehicle was found to have marijuana inside. A summons is being requested on a charge of possession of drugs.

¯ A woman reported Thursday being assaulted by Alexander J. Christner, 28, at 3440 County Road 9, Reno, on Jan. 21. After completing the investigation and speaking to all parties involved, Christner was placed under arrest for assault.

¯ On Thursday, a deputy began an investigation into a possible financial scam. This case remains under investigation.

¯ Cody A. Smith, of 11203 State Route 550, Vincent, for domestic violence.

¯ John L. Lindsey, of 230 Henniger Road, Lowell, for failure to appear for final pretrial, original charge theft.

¯ Jason D. Knowlton, of 327 Guilford Ave., Woodsfield, failure to appear for pretrial, original charge OVI.

¯ Thomas W. Gaughan, of 120 Sanjubar Drive, Marietta, for failure to appear for pretrial.

¯ David L. Slagle, of 4869 Rainbow Road, Lowell, for failure to appear for final pretrial, original charge obstructing; failure to appear for final pretrial, original charge possession of criminal tools.

¯ Christopher L. Snyder, of 3017 City View Drive, Parkersburg, for failure to appear for probation violation.
